SEQUOIA & KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARKS / Labor Day WEEKEND
Giant trees. Camping. Waterfalls.
This is cross-posted on different Meetup groups.
Most attendees on past trips are in the 25-40 age range.
Right now, we have 23 people going, but I've gotten another campsite, so I'm opening up the trip to more people.
We're going to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks for the long Labor Day weekend -- that means we'll have a full 2 days (Sat & Sun) to explore the parks. Hiking. Camping. Hanging out. Have you even driven through a tree? Sequoia is famous for it's giant trees, including the largest tree in the universe --called the "General Sherman." (You know if a tree has a name, it's special!) And yes, there is even a tree you can drive through!

We'll do some hiking. Hit a waterfall or two -- maybe go swimming. We'll explore Kings Canyon, and do a not-so-hard hike to stare down into the canyon below. There's an alpine lake I want to take a look at. There's a really cool cave in the park -- I'm working on booking us a group tour. We'll watch the sunset from the top of Moro Rock. And, of course, there's the biggest tree in the world. Oh, and if "See a bear" is on your really odd bucket list, come with us to Sequoia -- it's your best place to spot a bear! There will also be plenty of time to just hang around the campfire.
LEARN TO CAMP! If you've never camped before, this would be a great introduction for you: This trip will be a little more relaxed than some of my recent trips, with more time to hang by the campfire. Weather will be warm, so you won't need a giant sleeping bag.
And this is car-camping -- it's civilized! There are bathrooms and running water. Showers, a restaurant and a store are next door to the campground. I bring 2 gas stoves and kitchen utensils/pots/pans for cooking. There will be hot water in the morning for coffee etc. You should have basic gear for car camping: sleeping bag/blanket, pad/mattress/yoga mat, flashlight/headlamp, the right clothes and shoes, etc. But if you don't have a tent -- don't worry -- there's always enough tent space for everyone. You supply your own food. Drinking cups, plates and utensils will be supplied. Campsite also has a grill for grilling.

We're hiking to Mist Falls - we'll find this stone dude who lurks over the falls.

Mountains. Giant trees. Waterfalls. And maybe you can even play fetch with the friendly bears! You got anything better planned for Labor Day? The campsite is booked for 3 nights Friday-Monday (nights of Sept 1, 2, 3). Since this is a holiday weekend, the earlier you can leave on Friday the better. This is not a hardcore trip, but please be in good shape with some hiking experience. We were at Sequoia for Labor Day last year and have done recent trips to Zion and Yosemite (see pix below)-- its always a great time. This is cross-posted on different hiking Meetups.

If you want to go, please RSVP "Yes." I want to make sure you're prepared and ready to go for the trip -- so once you RSVP I'll send you an email with some questions. And you won't officially be on the trip until you're confirmed and pay.
Cost for the 3-night trip is $85 per person.
Weather should be perfect: highs in the low 80's and no rain (of course). Carpooling will be required, the campsite has limited parking. (You can coordinate your carpool thru a carpool tool I will link to.) Obviously, everyone carpooling will split gas cost and you'll also split the $30 park entrance fee. (But at least 3 or 4 people have Park Passes, so if you carpool with them you don't pay the entrance fee!)
And as always, no dogs, no kids and no bad attitudes!
