What do you do for Work and for Fun?

I'm a software engineer. Most of us don't dance. I've been at company holiday parties where the dancers are me and a number of women from the sales team. Most of my fun is organized around fitness: mostly running, swimming at Walden Pond in the summer. I love volleyball, but it's been a while since crew to play with. My sons and I kayak. On July 4th we put in across from Microcenter and paddled down to the fireworks barge. Awesome.

Do you drive or take the T?

Depends. My recent jobs have required driving, but I live in Brookline near the T, so jobs in Boston work too. It's great being able to run along the Charles at lunch time.

What are some of your hobbies and do you have any pet(s)?

I'm short on hobbies. The software biz requires constant updating of technical skills, so a major leisure time activity is reading yet another technology book. I putter around the house some, gradually getting handier. I have a condo and a three-decker, and could probably work full-time at fixing them up for a year without running out of projects. I enjoy hiking, did Monadnock with the five-year-old last week (so proud!). Watching TV sucks up more time than is ideal. A favorite show is Justified. Check it out.

Are you 20, 30, or 40+ Something?

Definitely in the 40+ category.

What compelled you to join this group?

The link to Scholars caught my attention. Sounds like fun! I want to dance, and don't know the venues any more, so it helps to have experts identifying the good places.

I love to dance. High school and college years, I was the DJ -- though that was the era of the mix tape, so all the song selection was done in advance... and I could spend the night dancing to my favorite music. Maybe I should take that up again?!
