More than anything, good Software Engineering is essential to building quality software. This group provides a venue for passionate Software Engineers to get better at their craft.
What happens at this meetup? We’ll code! Each session we’ll set a specific skill or practice to learn and a problem to match, from TDD to Design Patterns to Clean Code. We’ll then build a solution with other attenders by pairing ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pair_programming ) or mobbing ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mob_programming ) on it. But we’re also exploring other ways that fit whatever topic the group will find useful whether that does involve code dojos, or discussions done in open space or fishbowl. If you have suggestions, feel free to reach out.
If you're looking for a venue to practice skills you've learned or you just want to meet and work with other Software Engineers looking to continuously improve their craft, come join us!
October's meetup will on October 24th, Thursday hosted by PageUp at Emapta offices. The address is at:
EMAPTA Offshore Staffing
2nd floor, Orient Square Building
Emerald Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig
We've been learning from examples and exercises in the context of "ideal" projects, but projects in the real world are anything but. We may even find ourselves handed over code that we have to add functionality to, but looks like it wasn't written with good design in mind.
In October's edition of Software Crafters, we're going to try our hand at a Refactoring Kata. We'll have legacy, inefficiently designed code we'll need to add a new feature to, and leave in a better state than when we found it!
Please bring a laptop and an ID for building security. We may send another update prior to the event on the Kata repo that we'll be working with.
This event is free, and we'll have food served before we start.
Software engineers from all languages, stacks, and industries welcome. We'll have limited slots available so please RSVP soon. See you there!
