On the changes that Big Data and Fast Data bring to software development

Details

What do we practice?

We will discuss together how software development is effected by the use of Big Data and Fast Data technologies that have matured during the last years like many NoSQL databases or the Apache open-source projects Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.

Now you don’t have to be Google or Facebook to make use of these. But should you do that? And if you do, what things will be different than you are used to? What is necessary to design, built, deploy, and test systems that should take advantage of scaling horizontally?

This interactive workshop will not try to convince you to use some particular tool, but will show you benefits you can achieve and what to do to avoid pitfalls.

Your facilitator will be…

Michael Springmann is s a Software Architect, Developer and Coach at Zühlke Engineering AG.

He has been working on several Big Data or Fast Data client projects - as well as some more traditional projects building JEE or rich client applications.

Before joining Zühlke, he was part of the Databases and Information Systems Group at University of Basel, where he also earned his PhD in computer science for his research in the area of Multimedia Retrieval.
