We're fortunate to have the perfect speaker (and also fellow Meetup member) for the topic : Colin Dixon! Let's meet and listen to what Colin has to say about the OpenDaylight SDN controller, fresh on the heels of it's successful Lithium release and recent ODL Summit.
Colin Dixon is the Chair of OpenDaylight's Technical Steering Committee and a Principal Engineer at Brocade. In both roles, he focuses on leveraging open source software to build innovative networking solutions. Beyond that, he is active in open standards bodies including the Open Networking Foundation, where he has won two outstanding technical contributor awards for his contributions to Table Type Patterns that support using OpenFlow with diverse hardware. Colin is also a researcher focusing on distributed systems, networking, operating systems and security with over a dozen published academic papers. He holds a PhD in networking and distributed systems from the University of Washington. You can find more information at his website colindixon.com or follow him on twitter @colin_dixon.
We'll use the same format from previous events, with drinks from 6:30-7pm, followed by Colin's presentation with Q&A, and finally the usual open forum and questions, which tend to run the gamut of SDN topics. I'll try to bring a few USB sticks with a vagrant setup so that folks can stand up an OpenDaylight test and development environment during the meetup.
The Heavy Seas Alehouse in Arlington is located at 1501 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22209. Although the address says Wilson Blvd., the entrance to the bar is actually on Oak Street. There's ample street parking, and you don't have to feed the parking meters after 6pm. There is also a parking garage around the corner if you prefer to be parked in a covered structure. For those commuting by Metro, the Rosslyn Metro station is just two blocks away from the Alehouse, and is reachable via the Orange and Blue lines.
Can't wait to see you all there!
