SiS Learning Series: Songwriting from a Film Composer's Perspective

Details
Two-time Emmy-award winning composer/arranger Hummie Mann has collaborated with some of Hollywood's most celebrated directors in both theatrical and television films. He is best known for his scores to the Mel Brooks films Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Dracula: Dead and Loving It.
A glance at IMDB.com will show you that Hummie has scores of credits as music supervisor, composer, lyricist, conductor, orchestrator, music arranger, music recordist, music producer, score producer, performer, sound editor, and sound mixer. He has pretty much done it all.
Mann is also the principal instructor of the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program. He is a board member and founding president of the Seattle Composers Alliance and a governor of the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
In this presentation, Hummie will share his perspective on how film composers approach the concept of incorporating a song into their score.
If you intend to write songs for placement in movies and television shows, this talk will help you understand what a Film Composer/Music Supervisor's role is and how they go about choosing songs for a film.
