What we're about

Welcome to Sacramento Soul Motion. We are a group of people who enjoy moving together to explore creativity, presence, and aliveness. We meet weekly on Sundays, at Step 1 Dance and Fitness (1920 T Street), and also the first and third Saturday of each month, at Sierra 2 Center (2791 24th Street).

Our community ranges in age from early 20s to late 70s, we come from a wide range of backgrounds, and experiences. We share a love of play, embodied sacred silliness, reverence for life, devotion to creative expression, and a willingness to explore together through improvisation.

In our classes we practice Soul Motion, which is a contemplative form of dance-movement, developed by Vinn Arjuna Marti.

This tradition movement offers a doorway into relaxed aliveness and responsive connection. Soul Motion is at it's heart a relational practice, traveling through four landscapes of connection: solitude, in relation with another, in community, and with the infinite.

In class, simple and spacious movement inquiries and structures are offered: to hone our attention, support a deepening of creative expression, and cultivate a felt sense of community. We create time and space for diving deep into movement play with one another.

In our tradition we enter the practice through explorations in three foundational platforms: Pause Presence, Orbit Orientation, and Echo Inspiration. You can learn more about these platforms in class, or on our website: www.sacsomo.com.

The teachers of our classes are: Katrina Curry, Iko Miyazaki, and James Curry, certified Soul Motion teachers and practicing creative, somatic therapists. Along with guest teacher Kat Snow (another certified teacher who lives in San Francisco but sometimes comes to teach in Sac), we are are co-creating Sacramento Soul Motion Community with a variety of weekly classes, events, and workshops. You can find more information about our classes, the Soul Motion tradition, the teachers, and the community at our website: www.sacsomo.com, or at the Facebook group: Sacramento Soul Motion Community.

You do not need any prior movement experience to join in; every body is welcome.
