HARLEM GREEN, 8th ANNUAL TOUR OF HARLEM COMMUNITY GARDENS—FREE!

Details
On Saturday, August 31st (rain date, Sunday, September 1st), Harlem gardeners will host HARLEM GREEN, the 8th annual tour of Harlem farms and gardens. Visitors will see lush oases with verdant flora and fauna, rain water harvesting systems, solar pond aeration and lighting, vertical gardens, established fruit trees, abundant herbs, vegetables, and more. Some gardens began over 25 years ago on what was then sun-parched and rubble-strewn abandoned city lots. Visitors will also visit new gardens where neighbors have come together to sow wildflowers, excavate and reclaim abandoned debris-strewn lots.
The Tour will begin at 10:00 AM with a sumptuous breakfast on West 122nd Street at the JD Wilson Memorial garden. Thanks to the NYC Parks Department, a bus will transport folks (who aren’t walking or bicycling) on the Tour. The grand finale will again take place at the William A. Harris Garden with a delicious, traditional Harlem barbeque.
Sponsors for the event include The Green Guerillas; Greenthumb and The Parks Dept. of NYC;Harlem Gardeners’ The William A. Harris Gardeners; NYCCGC (The NYC Community Garden Coalition); Project Harmony, Inc.
