What we're about

This is an active group offering Sunday Soulful Nature Walks in Safety around Table Mountain or new trails just outside Cape Town for those who would like to "meetup" with like-minded people. Also on offer are Monthly Group Adventure Activities, Two Yearly Sacred Retreats, Events, Multi Day Hikes & Relaxing Group Weekends Away. These walks are ideal for spiritually minded folk to meet and connect and enjoy a nature experience. “Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

As group safety are paramount, we walk at the pace of the slowest person, (without any pressure). There is always an experienced hiker at the rear to assist anyone who is struggling and ensure no-one is left behind. We have first aid kits as well as at least 2 x two-way radios on all the walks to enable communication between leader and the person covering the rear at all times. Average group sizes are between 18 - 35 people - ensuring safety in numbers

Connecting like-minded people in a sense of community who share similar soulful interests out in nature.

A reminder for those who have not been on these Intuition Nature Walks before, the walks are intended to be of such a nature that we are able to slow down and through our senses, experience some of the wonders that nature has to offer. The slowing down creates an opportunity for re-connection within. Not to mention seeing some of Cape Town’s magical spots. Normally 2 hours of the time allocated is set aside for breaks, taking pictures or sharing in great conversations. This "set out" time out offers a great way to meet and connect with like-minded people who share similar interests.

This nature walking group covers a similar distance to other groups, the difference being the extra time allocated to the walk.

I look forward to you joining us. For more info or directions, contact Iain Macdonald on Tel: 072 3272840 or 021 4628004

This meet-up group forms part my websites http://www.intuitionwalks.com and www.awakening-intuition.com (http://www.awakening-intuitio.com) and the online Facebook section – https://www.facebook.com/groups/intuitionwalks (https://www.facebook.com/groups/intuitionwalks/). I have been offering these walks since 2004 and with a subscriber list in Cape Town of over 1500 people, this group offers a great way to meet like-minded people.

TO VIEW BELOW FOR PAST ORGANIZED WALKS AND WEEKENDS AWAY - https://www.meetup.com/Intuition-Nature-Walks-Cape-Town-Socials-Weekends-Away/events/past/

I also offer regular monthly full day walks, outside of Cape Town that are suitable for most levels of fitness, to explore some of the trails and spectacular nature spots that one does not normally get to hear about. These full day walks are normally less than two hours from Cape Town.

Throughout the year a number of multiday group hikes are organised for those keen to explore some of the wilderness nature reserves near Cape Town

A favourite and highlight are our group weekends away, with about 3-4 organised through the year. These are normally relaxing, self-catering affordable accommodation, a home away from home. Normally for these weekends the accommodation is the base camp and then various activities are offered in the surrounding area. Some of these have included, canoeing trips, nature walks, star gazing, swimming, great food and soulful conversations.

[PLEASE NOTE:]

This is an update of the joining requirements for future hiking weekends away. You will need to have participated in at least THREE of regular Sunday walks before booking for an event. This requirement does not apply to the Saturday adventures or the Weekend Retreats on offer. So those that are keen to join one of these magical weekends away with like-minded Soulful adventurers, we look forward to seeing you in the mountains sooner rather than later.

This structure / qualifying requirement has been put in place, so that I can gauge your fitness levels and determine whether you will be able to cope with the hike on offer. Your joining in on our regular Sunday walks also enhances the sense of connectedness and community as you will know most of the people going. I will in turn have a chance to meet you and you will get to know what is on offer. The weekends away offer a combination of adventure, soulfulness and relaxation and time out is allocated for quiet time. The time out offers time out to slow down a little to enjoy the views and connect with like-minded people.

MORE ABOUT THE GROOTVADERBOSCH NATURE RESERVE ######################### Originally known as Melkhoutskraal, the Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve encompasses 250 hectares of indigenous forest in the Langeberg region, close to Heidelberg. The name translates to “big father” in honour of Roelof Oelofse who owned the land in 1723. It has only been a reserve since 1986 and was declared a world heritage site in 2004. This is the most significant stretch of indigenous afromontane forest left in the south-western Cape, with nearly all of the 35 typical forest tree species, including red alder, ironwood, stinkwood and yellowwood. This is an excellent birding destination with more than 196 bird species regularly spotted. Hikers are likely to bump into bushbuck and spot baboons and smaller mammals when out on the trails. Sighting the forest emperor butterfly and a subspecies of the rare ghost frog would be the highlight of a visit here, as they can only be found in this particular forest. The edges of the forest and the nearby mountain fynbos provide some particularly good examples of endemic bird species such as the Knysna woodpecker, Knysna and Victorin's warblers, the forest canary and the Cape siskin. There are two bird hides set within the forest and amongst the 200 odd bird species you may spot are the paradise flycatcher, the crowned eagle and the narina trogon. ######################### ==> TOTAL COST & HOW TO BOOK Cost: R 2,[masked] per person or if you are not able to pay the full amount, then a 50% deposit to secure your booking with the balance to be paid on the 1st of October 2018. It is easily accessible from the N2, only 18km from Knysna. The trail is well established, clearly marked and not undulating. The trail starts from the Harkerville forestry station and follows a easy path along a circular route back to the station. Sections of the walk are shared with the Hakerville Coastal Hiking Trail (White footprints) and the Hakerville Cycle Routes. About halfway through the walk you will reach a small dam, no swimming here please as this is drinking water for the area, the trail turns right and goes down to a pool at a waterfall below the dam. This is a great place to stop, rest, snack and here you may also swim. There are a wide variety of fungi in all kinds of colors throughout the walk in the forest and also many other interesting vegetation. You will probably not manage to spot any of the shy creatures of the forest, but they include bushbuck, bushpig, vervet monkeys, caracals and blue duiker. Evidence of the odd leopard has also been seen in these forests. ------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT THE CIRCLES IN A FOREST TRAIL http://www.gardenrouteadventureguide.com/circles-in-the-forest-hiking-trail.html http://www.dalenematthee.co.za/english/memorial/hiking.html https://www.safarinow.com/destinations/knysna/hikingtrail/circles-in-a-forest-hiking-trail.aspx The Circles in the Forest trail is situated in the Goldfield State Forest and starts/ends at the Krisjan-se-Nek picnic site where you can braai and lie on the green grass. It is a beautiful easy to moderate walk through the forest. There is a swimming spot in a cool forest pool with small fish species in and also a beautiful pool with a waterfall. There are sections where you walk amongst huge forest ferns and frog-filled streams with small wooden bridges. Feel dwarfed as you pass the towering 600-year old Outeniqua Yellowwood trees. You can almost hear them whisper Oupoot, the name of the long lost heroine and matriarch elephant made famous by Dalene Matthee. This is truly the heart of the Knysna indigenous forest typified by giant Yellowwood trees, three-metre high tree ferns, Red-billed Wood-hoopoe, babbling streams, ancient ironwood trees, arum lilies, colourful mushroom and bracket fungi. Evidence of baboon, bush pig, porcupine and bushbuck can be seen everywhere. Keep glancing up to the treetops and you might spot a Knysna loerie. Formerly called the Woodcutters Trail, this route is named after one of Dalene Matthee’s famous novels. The three and nine kilometre trails range from easy to moderate and are manageable for anyone over the age of five. ------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT THE ELEPHANT FOREST TRAIL http://www.gardenrouteadventureguide.com/elephant-hiking-tails.html The White Elephant Trail (8.5) has the most enticing rock pool where you can stop for a picnic and even have a dip in summer. But please be sensitive to the environment. This trail is a scenic delight with clear streams enticing you to stop, rest, explore and just let mysterious beauty of the forest seep into your soul. Apart from just walking, give attention to the huge yellowwoods, the stinkwood trees that topple over and just keep on growing, the vast variety of fungi, the fynbos, vervet monkeys playing in the tree tops and if you are lucky you might even spot the elusive Knysna Loerie. The Knysna Forests are probably the finest example of Southern African indigenous forests. The area is famous as the last outpost of the Knysna Elephant. ------------------------------------------------------- OTHER NATURE ATTRACTIONS THAT WE WILL VISIT Noetzie beach and nature reserve http://noetziecastles.co.za/ http://www.noetzie.co.za/about-noetzie/ Noetzie remains a peaceful, somewhat isolated place but has now become famous worldwide because of its castles and its stunning views. Populated by a small group of permanent residents, many of the Noetzie properties are still owned by the original families. The Knysna Heads, Coney Glen Beach and View look point http://wikivillage.co.za/knysna-heads A trip to Knysna Heads is a prerequisite for first time visitors to Knynsa. Two dramatic sea cliffs guard the entrance to the lagoon from the surging ocean. The Eastern Head has a lookout with spectacular views of the lagoon, Leisure Isle and Knysna. The Western Head is primarily a privately owned nature reserve reached only by ferry – Featherbed Nature Reserve. Four-hour excursions depart daily from the Knysna Waterfront. Brenton Beach http://www.brentonhaven.co.za/beaches/ Brenton Beach according to all who visit, claim it is on the top of the list of the most beautiful blue flag beaches around. It’s the third time I have done this trail and the last time we did this trail was back 2016. The rocky mountains, bright wildflowers and still natural pools make the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve perfect for challenging hikes. The reserve’s mountainous terrain ranges between altitudes of 500m and 1 590m. Summers are generally hot and dry, while winters are cold with annual rainfall as high as 3 300mm on the Dwarsberg plateau. Approximately 110 bird species have been recorded, including several species of raptor. Many animals have been re-introduced, including the rare Cape mountain zebra, eland, bontebok and red hartebeest. Wherever possible we will share the transport in getting there. ######################### "This is the only moment that is real. To be here and now, and enjoy the present moment is our most important task. - Thich Nhat Hanh ######################### ABOUT THE SACRED SITES ######################### At least two panels of interesting paintings are within easy walking distance from where we are staying. Access to the paintings is with the farmer's permission only. A magnificent walk to the Heiveld Arch starts here; permits are obtained at the farm house. Site One: is about a kilometre from Houdenbek along the tarred road towards Op die Berg. Follow the road away from the farm, past the first massive rocks on the right, until you reach a large solitary pine tree standing on the left of the road. On the right a track leads off into the veld, below a low rocky outcrop. About 100 metres from the main road there is a narrow shelf in the outcrop, and some interesting paintings above it. This may have been a habitable site, where the people camped in the veld around the outcrop. Site Two: Walk or drive up past the farm shop to the dam. Follow the Heiveld trail for about 200 metres up the first kloof; the paintings are marked, in a shallow overhang on the left. The subject matter and situation strongly suggest that this was a shaman site. The large figure in the centre of the rock wall is peculiar in that it appears to have both feminine characteristics (a possible breast; possibly carrying a baby) and masculine. The very short legs and unknown black object around the waist are unusual. The apparent bisexual nature of the figure seems to be echoed in the small figure standing above the running leg of the hookhead figure to the right. There are its two very clear entoptics at this site. One is more difficult to notice at first: it seems to be just a few scratched lines. If you look carefully you will see that these have been painted. The second entoptic is a dramatic example of zig-zag, lightning-like lines of power; the strength in the image is extraordinary. ######################### Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. ~ Steve Jobs ######################### ==> TOTAL COST & HOW TO BOOK Cost: R[masked] per person to secure your booking.
