• Soulful Cape Point Coast Trail from Platboom Beach to Gifkommetjie

Please can you share - [Latest Update 18 Going so far - Booking Essential] – Suitable Beginner Soulful beginner walk or ideal for those new to the group – Cape Point Coast Trail from Platboom Beach parking area, along some stunning wild beach vistas to Gifkommetjie with swimming on route at our lunch break. Our lunch break will be just past the remains of the Phyllisia, a steam trawler wrecked in 1968. A possible highlight of this walk could also be an abundance of game that can be seen along the trail on the grazing plains. In the past we have seen large herds eland, bontebok and ostriches. If it’s warm enough on the day, there might be a chance for a cooling off swim at our lunch break. On offer will be a Suitable Beginner Walk or ideal for those new to the group. The pace won't be rushed. Please note if you have any doubts about your fitness due to the duration, please call. Extra time is allocated to the breaks and there will also be time for taking pictures and to enjoy this beautiful part of our country - Sunday – 27th January 2019 @ 8.30am - [12.65km] - Finishing time of walk @ approx. 5pm ==> TRAIL MAP ROUTE – https://www.mapometer.com/walking/route_4466237.html PLEASE NOTE NEW SUMMER START TIME IS @ 8AM but this walk will start at 8:30AM – Extra time has been given for breaks to enjoy the stunning views. This is very important, there is limited reception at our meeting point, please ensure that you are on time @@@ - If you want to join, please send me your Name & Surname, cell number and where you stay, so we can share transport costs if possible Please give yourself extra time, as people often underestimate the travelling time in getting there. It’s about 70min travelling time from the City Central Cape Town Or to check where you are coming from see link - https://tinyurl.com/y7s9q7pr --- add extra time to get through the entrance gate My aim is to connect like-minded people in the safety of a group in a sense of community who share similar soulful interests out in nature ;-) @@@ Please ensure you prepare for all weather conditions; a good raincoat is a must, regardless of the weather. The rain coat also acts as a multi-purpose windbreaker to keep you warm, if the wind picks up. Spring can still a cool, so long pants are recommended. Don’t forget to bring some coffee / tea to have at one of stops on route. 2 Litres of water is a must as a minimum for all walks on offer, even more on hotter or humid days. This walk is a Beginner Soulful Walk or ideal for those new to the group. The pace won't be rushed. PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE NEW TO HIKING and if you have any doubts about your fitness due to the duration and terrain, please call and I can advise you accordingly, so that you will know what to expect. You can also send me a message on "whatsapp" ######################### COST: R50 per person organising fee. Additional entrance / conservation fee of R155.00 (for locals) to enter Cape Point or bring your Green or Wild Card. @ Meet @ 8.30am – [12.85km] --- Return time @ 5pm @ The Weather forecast is set to be sunny. Temperature - max 28c / min 16c @ Please note that unfortunately no dogs are allowed on any of the walks that are on offer. @ New Conservation fees from 1st November 2018 to 31 October 2019 ######################### IT IS IMPORTANT TO GET THE GREEN CARD TO SAVE ON COSTS, UNLESS YOU HAVE A WILD CARD The TMNP My Green Card is available exclusively to South African residents of Cape Town, costs R147 and provides the holder with 12 free entries into any of the Table Mountain National Park’s pay points: Cape of Good Hope (Cape Point); Boulders Penguin Colony, Oudekraal and Silvermine, as well as to the braai and picnic areas at Tokai, Newlands and Perdekloof. It offers fantastic value. @@@ You can also bring with you 4 friends with on the day to be clipped on the card. They need to present their SA ID or driver’s license. As this walk is in advance and to save on costs on future walks, I would recommend that you purchase a Green card for 12 visits, to visit Cape Point, Silvermine or Boulders from your local tourism office. It is the same price as the entrance fee into Cape Point of R105.00. I normally do in a year about 4 different walks in Cape Point and a number of walks in Silvermine, where you can use the card to cover your entrance fee. If you are going to get a green card, make sure you take proof of address a 2 x pictures. Here is a list of place you can get your Green from - https://www.sanparks.org/parks/table_mountain/tourism/access-cards-permits.php#green -- With the Green Card you can also bring two friends with you using the card Where can I buy My Green Card? - Tokai Plantation Office, Tokai Road, Tokai (Mondays to Fridays 08:00-15:45) - Tel:[masked] Or at the following Tourism offices: Cape Town International Airport, City Centre, Kirstenbosch, Simon's Town, Somerset West, Long Street ######################### This may be of interest to some and worth exploring - Awakening Intuition - www.awakening-intuition.com – Enhance your Spiritual Awareness Development, with over 15500 E-books, Articles, Free Online Courses, Inspiring Quotes, and Free Online Movies to enhance your Intuitive Abilities -------------------------------------- HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS WALK ON OFFER -------------------------------------- @ Spectacular wild sea views @ Wild life that we might see on route might be Ostriches, Klipspringer, Dassies, Bontebok, Zebra, Eland, Cape Grysbok, Red Hartebeest and Chacma baboons. @ And not forgetting the richness of the floral biodiversity that is part of the Cape Floristic Region World Heritage Site. @ Optional swim at the lunch break if the weather is warm enough, so don’t forget to bring your costume and towel ######################### @ -- This is a reminder and very important when joining any of the hikes on offer, don’t forget your water, this should be at least 2 litres and at least 3 litres if it is a hot day. What to wear on the hike: Comfortable hiking clothes (trousers / shorts). In winter long pants are preferable due to the change of temperatures. Jersey or fleecy top. As the weather often heats up during the day, it is good to wear clothes that you can layer on or off. Pack extra, thinner tops as gusty wind can cause the temperature to change quite dramatically. In summer a peak cap for the sun, in a winter beanie or buff and gloves just in case and very important a rain coat no matter the weather conditions, as this also acts as a wind breaker. Remember a warm hiker is a happy hiker ;-) --- being cold or wet on route affects you and the group adversely. ######################### Awakening Intuition Nature Walk Experience / Events - Promoting a sense of community & connectedness with like-minded soulful people – From – http://www.intuitionwalks.com /&/ http://www.awakening-intuition.com WHAT IS ON OFFER ================ What is on offer is a soulful nature experience with like-minded people, with lots of extra time allocated to breaks to appreciate the beauty of our surroundings, a morning tea break on route, our lunch break, our swimming break and quiet time out in nature for reflection on our return route after lunch time permitting. ######################### For this walk we will be doing a Cape Point Coast Trail from Platboom Beach to Gifkommetjie, with an optional swim if the weather is suitable. We will meet at Platboom parking area and follow the trail from Platboom Beach along to beautiful beaches of Gifkommetjie (poisonous little bay). A highlight of this section is the incredible coastal dune vegetation, marshlands, pans and spectacular rocky beaches complete with kelp beds. There are also lots of interesting rock pools to explore .This area is also known as grazing plains, where some of the mammal species might be seen include antelope such as klipspringer, steenbok and eland, as well Cape mountain zebra and the peninsula's endemic Chacma baboons. The wildness and long expanses of the beaches are not to be missed. Once we get Gifkommetjie we will then head on to Hoek van Bobbejaan and to the beach just past the ship wreck of the Phyllisa that ran aground in 1968. An oddity that can be seen that includes maritime detritus, including raw blocks of rubber left over from a cargo vessel that was torpedoed in World War 2. On May[masked], the 452 ton Cape Town trawler Phyllisia was wrecked just up from the Thomas. T. Tucker, south of Olifantos Point. The trawler was 145 feet long and she struck the shore just before midnight. Eleven of her crew managed to get ashore in lifeboats and the remaining fourteen were lifted off by helicopter. The trawler eventually broke up after all attempts to save her had failed due to the bad weather. Don’t forget to bring along your costume for a swim at the breaks along the route and even if you don’t swim bring a towel along to relax on the sea shore bank sand while you have your tea or lunch break. The estimated time of walk end will be at approximately 5pm. Time permitting we will meet up for coffee or tea afterwards. ######################### PLEASE NOTE CANCELLATION POLICY. For this trail – no shows or those cancelling 24 hours prior to the trail, unless sick and have called or sent me a message, will be charged a no-show fee on the next trail. This is especially where people booked one or two friends and they don’t show or cancel, then the person booking will be liable for the extra amount on the next walk per person. The only conditions that affect this is if there is a forecast of rain on the day of the walk. This rule is in place to ensure that we have a sufficient group size for safety and to ensure that others are not turned away needlessly and could have come if cancellations were in time. You can contact Iain Macdonald on Tel:[masked] or[masked]. You can also send me a message on "whatsapp" ######################### Please do read the instructions in full as it contains all the relevant instructions for the hike, for example, meeting time, what to bring, fitness, and starting point. For future in my group those who have not let me know prior to the walk starting, will be removed from the walk listing. ######################### ==> DURATION OF WALK - Start time at 8:30am - [12.85km] -- Return time @ approx. 5pm Approximately 7 hours - (please note that these times may vary) with sufficient time to stop along the way. 2 hours of the allocated time is set aside for breaks and to explore the wonders of nature. This walk will be a walk suitable for those with a moderate minimum level of fitness, but the pace will not be hurried. For more info and directions, you can email or call me on Tel:[masked] or [masked] ######################### SAFETY AND FITNESS - This is for those that are new to hiking or joining our group walks for the first time. This is for those that are concerned about fitness in joining. We cover the same routes as most other groups, but take longer as more time is allocated to breaks (Normally about 2 hours during the day). As group safety is paramount, we walk at the pace of the slowest person, (without any pressure). There is always an experienced hiker at the rear to assist anyone who is struggling and ensure no-one is left behind. We have first aid kits as well as at least 2 x two-way radios on all the walks to enable communication between leader and the person covering the rear at all times. FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulfulnaturewalks/ This is the perfect group you if are a beginner, with every second walk suitable for all levels of fitness and this will give you a chance to build up fitness levels. I also do not repeat a hiking route within a 12 month cycle, which offers an expanded range of walks on offer. If hike is more strenuous or exposed, this will be communicated in the walk description, indicated by comparing against popular hikes (for example Lions Head) ######################### LEVEL OF FITNESS @ -- The walk on Sunday the 27th of January 2019 is suitable for most levels of fitness, but some minimum fitness is required due to the distance covered on the trail @@ -- If you have any doubts about the type of walk or pace in terms of fitness level, please call and I can advise accordingly. @@@ -- Extra time has been allocated for breaks along the way and to enjoy the spectacular scenery below ######################### WHAT TO BRING ALONG & SAFETY GUIDELINES *These requirements are for all walks if you wish to join, as individual safety affects the whole group* @ -- Most important - proper footwear. This being comfortable walking shoes (hiking boots for ankle support) or a good pair of running shoes. Please no crocs or sandals and do not come on a walk without any shoes or bare feet. You need to have a decent grip on the trail, as your safety affects the whole group. Also bring along a black bag to sit on in winter to keep your pants dry, if the grass or rocks are wet. @ -- Bring along something to eat for the tea break and lunch, trail snacks / fresh fruit, juice or flask for tea / coffee or cup a soup in winter. Sunblock very important and don’t forget your water, this should be at least 2 litres and more if it is a hot day. En route you should be drinking at least 1 full cup every 60min. @ -- What to wear on the hike. Comfortable hiking clothes (trousers / shorts). In winter long pants are preferable due to the change of temperatures. Jersey or fleecy top. As the weather often heats up during the day, it is good to wear clothes that you can layer on or off. Pack extra, thinner tops as gusty wind can cause the temperature to change quite dramatically. Remember a warm hiker is a happy hiker ;-). In summer a peak cap for the sun, in a winter beanie or buff and gloves just in case and very important a rain coat no matter the weather conditions, as this also acts as a wind breaker. @ -- A backpack (or daypack) to carry your supplies. A backpack with a hip belt is ideal; it allows the strong bones of your pelvis to support the pack's weight, easing the load on your shoulders. @ -- As this is a group walk, stay with the group and for the entire duration of the hike. We depart and arrived back as a group, this is non-negotiable, as anyone leaving early affects the whole group. ***Please note that unfortunately no dogs are allowed on any of the walks that are on offer. ######################### DIRECTIONS FROM CAPE TOWN Driving Directions from Cape Town City Centre ######################### WHEN LEAVING PLEASE CHECK THAT YOU HAVE DIRECTIONS WITH YOU Getting to Cape Point. One can go via the M4, Simon’s Town and Miller’s Point, on the M64 and 65 via Ou Kaapse Weg, Sun Valley, Kommetjie and Scarborough. Enter the Cape of Good Hope section of the TMNP after paying your entrance fee at the gate of R135.00, or use your Green Card / Wild card. Once you drive into Cape Point and drive towards the Light House. Drive past the Buffelsfontein- [ which is 7.5km from the entrance] and at the next right turn , you will see a sign for Platboom, turn right and then head down towards the Atlantic Coast . Then drive 2.2km to the parking area at Platboom and park right at the end that faces the ocean. This is very important, as people often under estimate the time getting there and arrive late. Please ensure that you are on time. I have listed below time from various areas. Please give yourself extra time, in case there is a que getting in at the main gate or you are stuck behind cyclists. These are minimum estimated times below. Please give yourself extra time, as people often underestimate the travelling time in getting there. It’s about 70min travelling time from the City Central Cape Town Or to check where you are coming from see link - https://tinyurl.com/y7s9q7pr --- add extra time to get through the entrance gate ==> Please give your sufficient time to be there on time. Meeting time is at 8.30am. For more info and directions, you can email or call me on Tel:[masked] or[masked]. #########################

It is easily accessible from the N2, only 18km from Knysna. The trail is well established, clearly marked and not undulating. The trail starts from the Harkerville forestry station and follows a easy path along a circular route back to the station. Sections of the walk are shared with the Hakerville Coastal Hiking Trail (White footprints) and the Hakerville Cycle Routes. About halfway through the walk you will reach a small dam, no swimming here please as this is drinking water for the area, the trail turns right and goes down to a pool at a waterfall below the dam. This is a great place to stop, rest, snack and here you may also swim. There are a wide variety of fungi in all kinds of colors throughout the walk in the forest and also many other interesting vegetation. You will probably not manage to spot any of the shy creatures of the forest, but they include bushbuck, bushpig, vervet monkeys, caracals and blue duiker. Evidence of the odd leopard has also been seen in these forests. ------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT THE CIRCLES IN A FOREST TRAIL http://www.gardenrouteadventureguide.com/circles-in-the-forest-hiking-trail.html http://www.dalenematthee.co.za/english/memorial/hiking.html https://www.safarinow.com/destinations/knysna/hikingtrail/circles-in-a-forest-hiking-trail.aspx The Circles in the Forest trail is situated in the Goldfield State Forest and starts/ends at the Krisjan-se-Nek picnic site where you can braai and lie on the green grass. It is a beautiful easy to moderate walk through the forest. There is a swimming spot in a cool forest pool with small fish species in and also a beautiful pool with a waterfall. There are sections where you walk amongst huge forest ferns and frog-filled streams with small wooden bridges. Feel dwarfed as you pass the towering 600-year old Outeniqua Yellowwood trees. You can almost hear them whisper Oupoot, the name of the long lost heroine and matriarch elephant made famous by Dalene Matthee. This is truly the heart of the Knysna indigenous forest typified by giant Yellowwood trees, three-metre high tree ferns, Red-billed Wood-hoopoe, babbling streams, ancient ironwood trees, arum lilies, colourful mushroom and bracket fungi. Evidence of baboon, bush pig, porcupine and bushbuck can be seen everywhere. Keep glancing up to the treetops and you might spot a Knysna loerie. Formerly called the Woodcutters Trail, this route is named after one of Dalene Matthee’s famous novels. The three and nine kilometre trails range from easy to moderate and are manageable for anyone over the age of five. ------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT THE ELEPHANT FOREST TRAIL http://www.gardenrouteadventureguide.com/elephant-hiking-tails.html The White Elephant Trail (8.5) has the most enticing rock pool where you can stop for a picnic and even have a dip in summer. But please be sensitive to the environment. This trail is a scenic delight with clear streams enticing you to stop, rest, explore and just let mysterious beauty of the forest seep into your soul. Apart from just walking, give attention to the huge yellowwoods, the stinkwood trees that topple over and just keep on growing, the vast variety of fungi, the fynbos, vervet monkeys playing in the tree tops and if you are lucky you might even spot the elusive Knysna Loerie. The Knysna Forests are probably the finest example of Southern African indigenous forests. The area is famous as the last outpost of the Knysna Elephant. ------------------------------------------------------- OTHER NATURE ATTRACTIONS THAT WE WILL VISIT Noetzie beach and nature reserve http://noetziecastles.co.za/ http://www.noetzie.co.za/about-noetzie/ Noetzie remains a peaceful, somewhat isolated place but has now become famous worldwide because of its castles and its stunning views. • Fully Booked - Soulful 4 Day Slack Packing Pakhuis Trail Cederberg Sacred Exp

[LATEST UPDATE AVAILABILITY - 12 Going – Fully Booked] – 4 Day x 3 night Slack Packing Pakhuis Trail Cederberg Heritage Route - Friday 14th – Monday 17th June 2019 (Monday the 17th of June is a public holiday) – The start of the trail is located on the top of the Pakhuis Pass 25km from Clanwilliam. The trail distance over the 4 days will be 42km. We will be staying at self-catered accommodations on all 3 x nights. The highlight of this trail will be that we won’t have to carry any backpacks apart from a day pack. I have arranged that all our weekend away luggage and equipment will be ported to each accommodation stay. The reason why this booked in advance is to secure the limited accommodation on the trail, as the public holiday dates book out first for 2019 Here’s a link to a video of the Cederberg Heritage Route. We will be doing part of the Route - https://vimeo.com/214854296 - Even if you don’t join us on the hike, this video is worth Watching at as it gives a real sense of what can be seen in the area. Have you heard of the term Slack packing? Slackpacking entails transport of your bags and heavy equipment to the destination, leaving you free to carry a light day pack only. This allows more people, who do not want to carry a heavy backpack for several days, to participate in the route. You will also be able to cater for a more varied and luxurious menu than two minute noodles and cheese wedges. This weekend is slack-packing at its finest in one of my favourite area being the Cederberg ######################### The Highlight of the long weekend will certainly be the Slack Packing Pakhuis Trail Cederberg Heritage Route. Day 1 - Arrive in Clanwilliam by 3pm, we will share transport to get there. We will check into our self-catering accommodation at the Backpackers that I have privately booked out for our sole use. We will have a group shared braai on the first night and get ready for the next days hike. We will also leave out vehicles here till Monday. Day 2.We will be transported from our accommodation to the top of the Pakhuis Pass. Our luggage will then be sent on to our next accommodation. From here we will hike via Amon se Poort down to the Krakadouw's Self-catering Cottages which are situated on Dwarsrivier Farm in the Boskloof Valley, approximately 13 km from Clanwilliam. Trail distance 16km, 7-8 hours with breaks on route, undulating but basically 700m downhill, rating 3B. On arrival at the self-catering Krakadouw cottages, we will check-in and settle into our accommodation. Day 3. The start will be from Krakadouw cottages. From here we will hike (12km, 7-8hr) up the spectacular Krakadouw Pass via the Anglo-Boer war block house to Krakadouw Neck and then down into the mission village of Heuningvlei. Most of the path is well made and the steepest section, near the top, is done on a zig zag.) You then stay overnight in a Heuningvlei Backpackers that I have again booked for our sole use as a private group Day 4. This morning we take the Donkey Cart Trail with our luggage from Heuningvlei to Pakhuis Pass (about 12km or 4 -5 hours walk, some 300m uphill and 250m downhill, rating 2A. The track is quite rough and the donkey cart is not a very comfortable vehicle. If you decide to ride in the cart and conditions allow this, be prepared for a bumpy ride.). NOTE ALSO that the donkey cart track is subject to serious erosion during heavy rain storms, which make it unsuitable to take passengers on the carts, so you may have to walk all the way. Once back at the top of the pass, we will then be collected and taken back to our vehicles in Clanwilliam. We will then do our closing circle at 2pm and depart at 3pm, heading back to Cape Town. TOTAL DISTANCE ABOUT - 42km – PLEASE NOTE MODERATE FITNESS IS REQUIRED as the trail distance over the three days. This will gives us sufficient time in the day to enjoy the scenery, swim in some of the stunning swimming spots on route. This is a great chance to experience this trail and explore its beautiful surroundings, not to mention, connecting with like-minded people. ######################### "VERY IMPORTANT" -- Please email first or call me directly (Do not just mark yourself as going on Facebook / Meetup) to check for availability and to book on - [masked] or for more info, contact Iain Macdonald on Tel:[masked] or[masked] - When making a booking, please can you send me your cell number, email address, name & surname and number of people going. You can also send me a message on "whatsapp" Anyone is welcome to join as long as you have done TWO of the regular Sunday Walks before the due date of the event. The reason why this event has been booked so far in advance to ensure availability, especially with large groups. Please note that moderate fitness is required for this trail. -------------------- PLEASE NOTE: -------------------- There are only TWO requirements to join this event. One is that we have spoken on the telephone, so that I can to give you a sense of what is on offer before you book. The other is that you need to have done two of the regular Sunday walks that I offer in the past 6 months or at least one of the regular walks in the six months leading up to the event. This structure / qualifying requirement has been put in place, so that I can gauge your fitness levels, meet you in person and determine whether you will be able to cope with the hike on offer. Joining in on at one of the walks before the event, also enhances the sense of soulful connectedness, as you will know some of the people going. The weekends away offer a combination of adventure of soulfulness, relaxation, group sharing of the day’s experience and time out is allocated for quiet time. By joining a walk I also get a chance to meet you and you will get to know what is on offer in person. This weekend away will be suitable for moderate levels of fitness. Extra time on the trails on these weekends away provides time to connect with the beauty of nature, including plenty of opportunity for taking pictures. There is also own time allocated on these weekends to explore the beauty of place where we are staying. Often there is an opportunity to swim, if it’s warm enough. ######################### Here you can see the Route Trail Map over the 3 Days of the Trail - https://www.mapometer.com/walking/route_4717022.html - on offer will be stunning landscape vista’s, rock formations, waterfalls and rock painting on route that can be seen. This has been on list for a while to visit this area for a long time and with the self-catering option slack packing over several days in the Cederberg, a serious bonus to enjoying the experience. The guided trails on offer will be suitable for those with a moderate level of fitness, however, the pace will not be hurried. If in doubt, please call. If you can walk up Lions Head, then this walk will be suitable for you. If you are not sure of your fitness, please call, however extra time is allocated to the breaks. The Star Gazing Opportunities are going to be Awesome ;-) The Cederberg is most famous for its unique rock formations as well as for fine examples of San (Bushmen) rock paintings and spectacular wild flowers in spring (early/mid August to early September). Most of the Cederberg is a designated Wilderness area and thus remains one of the most undisturbed areas of the country. Cederberg Heritage Route is very popular slack packing trail and the accommodation is very limited. This then is why it needs to be booked in advance to secure and paid for with deposits. We will be meeting on the Friday @2pm at The Clanwilliam Living Landscape Project Backpackers, so you will need to take off the Friday. ######################### Cost: R 2,[masked] per person. This will be a self- catering option. If you are not able to pay the full amount, then a 50% deposit to secure your booking with the balance to be paid on the 1st of February 2019. Included in the payment will be your accommodation for the 3 x nights, self-catering accommodation, organising / facilitator fees and the various guided activities on offer. Also included in the fee is the transport of our kit every day and our transport to and from the starting of the trail from Clanwilliam. Excluded are the conservation permits per day, which is R60.00 x 3 or you can use your wild card to cover. The permits we will organise when we get to Clanwilliam on Friday. And your own and transport costs on getting to Clanwilliam. Where possible we will share petrol cost to make it more affordable. This will be a 4 day / 3 night away trip, starting on the Friday from 12pm, with arrival no later than 3pm for the start of the event and our opening sharing circle and ending on Monday (Public Holiday) afternoon 3pm for our closing circle get together and sharing. VERY IMPORTANT -- Please check that you can commit to these times before joining. It is recommended that you take the Friday off to be there on time and to make the most of the Autumn Weekend away Suitable for those with a moderate level of fitness due to the distance and trail duration. If you are not sure of your fitness, please. The self-catering accommodation where we are staying at is located in Clanwilliam and around 40kim radius. Our meeting point is only 220 km / 230min from Cape Town. Wherever possible we will share the Transport in getting there. ######################### ABOUT THE CEDERBERG HERITAGE ROUTE ######################### Attractions of hiking in the Cederberg - The Cederberg region, 2½ hours drive from Cape Town, has a spectacular mountain landscape, is a treasure house of pre-colonial rock art and has a rich botanical diversity, being part of the Cape Floral Kingdom of South Africa. A major portion is a proclaimed Wilderness Area that recently obtained World Heritage status. The Cederberg region contains a unique combination of attractions, including: Over 2000 sites of an impressive variety of San (Bushmen) rock art, produced by pre-colonial hunters and gatherers. Amazing red sandstone cliffs and rock formations, sculpted and weathered by nature. On the Sunday we will do a shorter trail on the section no covered up to one of the tranquil river pools that offer’s some awesome views down towards to the dam. Our Hike Starts on the Middelrug Trail. Middelrug starts at the swimming dam on Berg-en-Dal farm. Climb up onto the dam wall and walk along its length to the far left-hand side. Once in the far left corner on top of the dam wall, turn left (away from the dam) and walk along the side of the mountain. Look for the start of the trail a few meters on, it turns sharply to the right and goes up the side of the mountain. This trail goes up along the ridge of the spur and promises spectacular views and sunshine. This trail should take 2 hours and you must return along the same route. It is quite steep but not difficult to walk. Take plenty of water in summer as you do not cross any rivers. If you know your fynbos you may be able to find an endangered Erika variety which is only found on our farm. Thought to have become extinct, several years ago a veldfire (started by lightning) ravaged this spur and subsequently The connecting sections between The Middelrug trail and the Karin Trail is a stunning Indigenous Forest Our trail joins onto the Karin Trail Named after Karin Busch, this trail is both beautiful and rewarding and it is one of our most popular trails. It follows the mountain streams along shaded & wooded valleys. Tree ferns, rocks and the gurgling stream are your companions. We recommend this delightfully cool hike during the summer months. It starts on Bergen- Dal behind the big dam, follow the road and take the left fork up the valley, this is Karin Trail and it takes you to behind Tafelberg. Our Trail then joins the Hermit Ridge Trail (goes West, then North & links up with So named after the legend of an old hermit who used to live in the Langeberg Mountains. Apparently he horded a fortune in Kruger Rands and the secret of this treasure was lost when he died. Over the decades the exact position of his mountain home was lost, along with his treasure. In the 1980’s when we cleared the dense vegetation to make our hiking trails we found several exotic lemon trees in the middle of the fynbos forest at the foot of Hermit’s Ridge Trail. Apparently no human had been there in decades! We can only assume that this was the source of the Hermits vitamin C. Hermit’s Ridge Trail starts at the gate near Oak Cottage on Bergendal. This below section will be done in reverse from the end of the Karin Trail. As you go through the gate, turn sharp left and go through the second gate onto the meadow. Walk towards the Willow Trees at the stream in the middle of the meadow. Hop across the stream and then turn sharp right. Follow the trail through the Acacia forest, then along the fence to rise up through & above the Poplar Forest. Here the trail winds steeply up the side of the ridge, it is slow going and steep, take your time, once on top the views are spectacular and the going is easier. Follow the top of the ridge travelling North and to the right of Tafelberg. You will link up with Karin Trail which turns right & zigzags steeply down the side of the mountain to the Kloof & stream below. OR, follow the trail West skirting behind Tafelberg and at the foot of the Langeberg to join up with Teebos Trail on Bergplaas farm. So you have the option of joining any of the other trails, or you can turn around. This will be a 3 day / 2 night away trip, starting on the Friday from 2pm, with arrival no later than 3pm if you are coming from work for the start of the event and our opening circle. We will be ending on Sunday afternoon from 2.30pm for our closing circle get together and sharing. Please check that you can commit to these times before joining. If you can, try and take Friday off to make most of a long weekend. ##################### PLEASE NOTE: -------------------- There are only two requirements to join this event. Macdonald / Current Account Account number -[masked] / Branch Code -[masked] Corner Lower Long and Hans Strydom Street Cape Town – South Africa ######################### TERMS OF BOOKING ######################### For these group events payments are made in advance for Accommodation or Adventure Activities or Permits, hence no refunds are on offer. If you are not able to join, a refund will not be offered unless the event is full and the last person refills your place. Once I have received their payment, I will refund you. I do however make every effort to regularly re-advertise cancelled spaces, via my various listings, that include Facebook, Meetup and my email listing, in an attempt to fill up the event and hopefully refund you. If you can't make it for one of the adventures it is recommended that you find a replacement yourself, as I cannot guarantee that a replacement will be found. For the weekends away, any person who takes your place must have done one of the regular walks before the weekend away as per the usual qualifying requirements below. With cancellations less than 7 days prior to our departure day, NO REFUNDS are on offer and your spot will NOT be re-advertised as it is too short notice. People tend to make other plans and bookings in the last week are very hard to refill unless I have a waiting list. I also reserve the right to re-schedule or cancel a tour should the minimum number of people not be attained or if the booking is cancelled by the outsourced operator or due to the weather not being suitable; in this case a full refund will be offered. PLEASE NOTE - When you book please note the joining requirement of having walked at least one Sunday walk in the 12 months prior to the event. If you have not done a walk before, you are able to secure a spot with payment, but the onus will be on you to attend at least one of the walks as discussed. It is recommended that you walk sooner rather than later. If you run out of time and do not walk you will not be able to attend. You will then unfortunately have to forfeit your booking and the above cancellation policy will apply. • 2 x Spots Left - Christmas in July & Hiking Trails @ River House Breede River

Please can you share - [14 Going – 2 places left] -- Soulful Winter Weekend Away – Friday 19th – 21st July 2019 – The River House Rawsonville on the Breede River and our annual Christmas in July. Anyone is welcome to join as long as you have done one of the regular Sunday Walks before the event in the past year and been on one of Weekends away Previously (This requirement is different, to most of the other Hiking weekends away, where you only needed to do one of the walks before the event ) . One of the highlights will certainly be the delicious 3 x Course midyear Christmas dinner, prepared by Inge a regular on the walks, a tradition that dates back to 2010 ;-) at various venues. A highl-light that we will be repeating again was the hike up to the viewpoint above Tiewkloof, offer some stunning views over the Blandvlei and Kwaggaskloof dam and towards the Slanghoek Valley On the Saturday we will do one of the hiking trails on the Tierskloof Reserve Blandvlei Dam. The scenery at Tierkloof is also one of the main attractions. With gorgeous views in every direction you look, as well as a good variety of fauna & flora, you cannot afford to leave your camera at home. In the Winter, the mountains are snow-capped, a beautiful sight as they ascend majestically out from the valley of vineyards. Black Eagles nest in the mountains nearby. Fish eagles, Buzzards, Falcons and many other raptors can be spotted too. On the Sunday we will do a shorter trail from where we are staying, which will offer some more spectacular mountain views. The reason why this event has been book so far in advance is that, is due to its popularity as a function venue and the layout which is just stunning. Foe the past two years, those that have been there before, tend to rebook again. It is also a bird lovers paradise and there is also canoes to use to, do some bird spotting up close. The venue is perfect for our next Christmas in July in 2019, as it worked so well for out last Christmas in July 2018. Since offering these events since 2003, The River House on the Breede River, was one of the best and luxurious affordable accommodation options that suited all our needs just perfectly. With the stunning river and mountain views from the lounge and river decks, this weekend away certainly offered so many wow moments, to enhance this soulful weekend away. A recommended favourite by all that were there in May 2017 and July 2018. We will also do a nighttime walk where some of the nightlife can be spotted if we are lucky enough. Here you will see the Karoo in a different light - or no light but that of stars. Night walks typically last about 1 hour and can offer up surprising animal sightings like the African grey cat, owls, aardvark, porcupines and even Elephant trunk mice! There will also be allocated own time for relaxation or Soulful reflection time out and star gazing opportunities under the night sky. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I look forward to you joining us.
