Please note the earlier start time (early time is to beat the heat for the day). Please read the description thoroughly.
Parking Location: Parking can be found in the Windsor Boulevard Bike Trailhead lot or neighborhood parking.
Total Distance: We will be having 2 distance options for this hike: 4mi (paved and packed dirt) or continuing further for 10mi (dirt path and stream crossings). The 2 options will have very different time and physical requirements, so plan accordingly.
Trail/Trail Difficulty: Dirt path and asphalt for the first two miles, and the rest is 6 stream crossings and dirt paths with some narrow paths between brushes. Trail level is between easy - medium.
Distraction Level: Easy - Medium (expect to see wildlife like small prey animals and expect to see people and dogs later on in the hike)
Note: If you plan to continue on and do the longer route of this hike, PLEASE KNOW THAT YOUR FEET AND LEGS WILL GET WET FROM CROSSING THE STREAMS!!! Please plan accordingly for yourself and your dog!
Please make sure to bring plenty of water and treats for your dog. And make sure you bring some sunscreen for yourself! We will be taking plenty of breaks on the trail!
The usual rules:
- Only 1 dog per person is allowed.
- Handler must be over 18 years of age.
- Dogs must be on a 4'-6' leash at all times. Please, no retractable leashes
This is a force free (least invasive, minimally aversive) group.
- Please no prong collars, choke collars, or e-collars. We recommend a martingale collar, front-clip harness, or head halter for heavy pullers.
If your dog has a bite history, please positively condition them to wear a muzzle to this meetup.
We recommend the baskerville ultra muzzle as it allows them to pant, drink water, and take treats.
- Your dog must be current on vaccinations and have an up-to-date license tag from your city.
- Due to the nature of this meetup, face to face introductions are not allowed. Always ask the dog owners before allowing your dogs to interact, and if in doubt, assume more space is always better.
- Please be mindful of the space needs of our less social furry friends.
- Maintain a min 6 foot distance with unfamiliar dogs.
The Gabrielino Trail is a fantastic family-friendly hiking route in Angeles National Forest that utilizes a multi-use path through a scenic canyon. While out on the trail, you will traverse a variety of terrain that is both man-made and natural, passing through the beautiful Fern Canyon before turning back for the return leg. As this is a multi-use trail, make sure to keep an eye out and leave enough room for others to safely pass.
