Speaker: Orencio Cardenas, Lead Assessor PCI at GM Sectec
Title: GM Sectec – NIST Cybersecurity – More than a Framework
Abstract: The NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) provides guidance for assessing & improving the ability to prevent, detect, and respond to cyber-attacks. NIST CSF can also serve as a baseline and foundation for building and strengthening programs, playbooks, and direction; can function like the Rosetta stone in understanding & mapping a cybersecurity program’s combination of technology, processes and people to a multitude of regulations, compliance, and industry standards. In this session, we will cover the scope of NIST CSF mapping. For a detailed example, we will explore how NIST CSP and NIST functional areas to categories, map to HIPAA and other standards and regulations.
Speaker's Bio: Orencio Cardenas has over 20 years of experience in Information Technology and Security, and has developed, implemented, and maintained stable on-premise, hybrid and Cloud business systems, ITSEC systems, and network infrastructures. His expertise and background are primarily focused on IT Governance, Compliance and Cybersecurity. Orencio has assisted banks, payment processors and service providers in passing PCI, FDIC, and FED audits. In healthcare, he has managed the IT infrastructure for 200 medical offices and EMR platforms. He is currently providing vCISO services to a large Orlando based healthcare company. Speaker: Philip Werlau at Vijilan Security, LLC
Title: Ethereum: Smart Contracts, NTFs, and Decentralized Finance
Abstract: Inspired by Bitcoin and released in 2015, Ethereum is an open source, decentralized blockchain project with smart contract functionality. In the past year, innovation in the areas of decentralized finance—DeFi, and non-fungible tokens—NFTs, have led to renewed interest in the Ethereum ecosystem. This talk will introduce the fundamental concepts behind blockchains and discuss the concepts and recent advancements around DeFi and NFTs.
Speaker's Bio: Philip Werlau is a Senior Security Engineer at Vijilan Security, a provider of SIEM/SOC services. An early adopter of Bitcoin and Ethereum, Philip has been following the technical developments in the cryptocurrency space for nearly a decade.
