Some people think open-mindedness is a precondition for learning and living in a free society. Some people think holding firmly to one’s convictions is an indicator of clarity and confidence. Is changing one’s mind something to be commended as a sign of flexibility and growth, or to be condemned as weakness and lack of commitment? What causes us to change our mind? How does changing our mind alter our view of ourselves and our relationships with others? What is at stake when we change our mind?
