What we’re about

With the safety of our employees and network remaining our top priority and given the current potential risk associated with the spread of Covid-19, we are sadly having to temporarily postpone our face-to-face Meetups. We are however excited to announce the launch of a series of  ‘iO Virtual Meetups’!

This new platform will allow us to reach more of our community, interact directly with you throughout the presentation and get the most in demand speakers on your choice of topics!

We will get the Meetups back up and running as soon as this is safe for both you and our employees. In the meantime keep an eye out on out LinkedIn page for announcements on upcoming iO Virtual Meetups or get in touch to find out more at meetups@ioassociates.co.uk

The South West Java & JVM User Group, almost always fuelled by pizzas, is geared towards providing the local South West community with insightful, fun and interesting talks, pub meets, lightening talks etc on topics related to Java Virtual Machine and languages which run on it such as Java. We are exclusively organised by iO Associates (http://ioassociates.co.uk).

Our group is free to join and attend, from Java Software engineers to aspiring Computer Science students to Product Managers to Agile Coaches. Plus anyone in between!

The main aim is to promote the adoption and understand of Java and other JVM languages such as Scala and Kotlin.

We meet once a month, at various local companies/venues (predominantly in and around Bristol) in the community. This gives the local community a chance to find out about different companies but more importantly to network with other techies in the area. Meetups so far have consisted of 2 or 3 talks on the night, although we are planning on running a ‘Unconference’ in the summer too. Hopefully hosting it in the roaring sun!

We are lucky enough to be in a very fortunate position where local companies sponsor us with a spread of drinks, pizzas but most importantly with the talks.

At every Meetup this year, we will also be giving away 1 Jetbrains license to a lucky winner on the evening. Great to see the support from the guys at Jetbrains!
