Announcing a new Meetup for South Bay Ramblers Hiking Group!

What: Henry Cowell / Roaring Camp Railroad

When: Saturday, January 29,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Henry Cowell State Redwoods Park
Hwy 9
Felton, CA 95018
[masked]

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is nestled in the forested coastal mountains just a few miles from the city of Santa Cruz. It is nearly 1,800 acres of remarkable diversity... huge venerable redwoods, lush stream canyons, open sunny meadows, pine and oak forests and high dry chaparral covered ridges. This approx. nine mile loop will take us through all these different ecosystems plus some of the adjoining beautiful Roaring Camp Railroad property. We will see a lot of the upper section not visited as much as the lower flatter part of the park. This is a moderately difficult hike due to the length but has no extremely long uphill climbs. Some trails are sandy but even after a good rain storm are passable with out being real muddy.

Facilities: There is not restrooms or water at the trail head. There is water, soda, and restrooms at approx. the five mile, and water at the eight mile part of the hike.

Directions to the trail head: Take Hwy 17 past Scotts Valley approx. one mile, take the Sims road Exit, veer to the left and proceed to the stop sign. turn right on Sims Road and go to the end, turn right onto Graham Hill Road. Go Approx. 1/4 mile just past the Graham Hill Plaza and across from Nepenthe Lane and make a right turn veering to the right and follow the narrow access road to the upper end where I'll be parked in my Ink Blue ( Black ) Ford Edge. Parking is on both sides of the road.

Carpool directions: Meet at the Los Gatos park and ride at 8:15 with a departure time of 8:30
