Hiking weekend away, YHA South Downs near Lewes, East Sussex

• What we'll do

Affordable 2 day hiking weekend on the South Downs near Lewes in East Sussex with 1 overnight stay Saturday night.

Leave early Saturday morning, stay Saturday night at YHA South Downs near Lewes. Hike Saturday and Sunday, return Sunday evening.

Meet at High Barnet station 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning for car sharing. Possible meeting at Potters Bar or St Albans by arrangement. If you travel independently, meet us outside YHA South Downs 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

COST AND PAYMENT
Pay £22.99 for 1 night bed only but it may be less (£17.25) if we manage to book at the YHA January Sale price. Further £3 reduction for members of YHA England & Wales (or another Hostelling International association). We already have 1 male and 4 females booked on the weekend. As of 15/01/2019, YHA have 3 female spaces left, fully booked for males.

Breakfast, other meals and transport are not included.

Maximum 8 on weekend. Pay by 17/01/2019 or book yourself in at YHA South Downs for the night of 09/02/2019. Use code JAN-019 for 25% discount.

Please don't book travel, etc. until you have paid and your place has been confirmed.

TRANSPORT OPTIONS
Own car or car sharing, 103 mls each way (via M25) plus 10 mls for local trips = 216 mls total. For car sharing, suggested contribution to driver is 216 mls @ 7.5p = £16.20 return for each passenger. Alternatively, train to Southease Station, 5 minutes walk from hostel.

ACCOMMODATION
YHA accommodation in shared single gender room (bunk beds).

MEALS
Prepare your own food in the self-catering kitchen or buy breakfast, packed lunch, evening meal at YHA South Downs. Possibility of pub meal Saturday evening.

CHECK IN TIME SATURDAY
Check in 17:00 - 22:00 Saturday.

• What to bring

For hikes: Hiking boots with good grip (footpaths may be slippery or muddy in places), suitable outdoor clothing for weather conditions including extra layer for outdoor stops and waterproof jacket for rain. The £22.99 is all for accommodation and any surplus will be refunded in cash on the weekend. There is no separate event charge but you are invited to donate £1 per day (total £2) towards the running costs of this Meetup Group.
