A group for people who enjoy thinking about the nature of everything and believe that questions are more important than answers. For those that like to listen, to converse without judgement and to challenge their own beliefs and ideas. Fun, wit and humour also very welcome! This is a new group and we would love to meet anyone with any level of interest in philosophy. We plan to have monthly meetings at informal venues around Southend; with conversation topics decided upon at the time. Please let us know if you have ideas about venues or topics. We look forward to meeting you!
Going back to ancient times there has been a close relationship between philosophy and the sciences. The scientific categories we use to this day were created by Aristotle and many philosophers came from a scientific, specifically mathematical background. Both disciplines seek to expand human understanding of the world using different methods. In more recent times however, science itself has become a subject of philosophical debate and inquiry, which is what this meeting will centre on.
Hope to see you there.
