Welcome freethinkers! We are an organization serving Clayton, Henry, Spalding, Fayette, Butts, Coweta, Jasper, Newton and Rockdale counties. We are a sister organization of the Spalding Freethought Society.
What is "freethought"? Freethought is a philosophical viewpoint that truths are based on logic, reason, science, and empiricism rather than tradition dogma or authority. In today's society, freethought is typically equated with atheism, but is, in fact, far more reaching. What makes a freethinker is not his or her conclusions or beliefs, but how those conclusions and beliefs are derived. Freethought is also the willingness to change their most closely held views in light of sufficient evidence. Modern freethought has its roots in the late Renaissance and draws upon the ideals of such philosophers as Giordano Bruno, Diderot, and Voltaire.
What is the purpose of Southern Crescent Freethinkers? Our organization was established to bring together those who want to network and build friendships with like-minded freethinkers. We encourage challenging the status quo by questioning the authority, dogma or tradition that pushes its hateful, hurtful, or unconstitutional ideas on our society. Our actions are in hopes of making our community free of ignorance and to support the concept of dignified human rights.
Who are we?
We attract atheists, agnostics, Humanists, deists, Buddhists, Unitarian Universalists, pantheists, Pagans and skeptics. We are made up of all political parties, genders, sexuality, races and classes of life. We all share a common love of truth and celebrate each other for overcoming the pressures of society that operate on the fallibility of our minds. Some of our members are community activists supporting causes like equal rights for all people and separation of Church and State.
We are glad you are here, there are no pressures or obligations but we hope you will join us in friendly conversation or activities, support our cause financially, or simply build our numbers with your presence in helping us make a better community.
