What we're about

Hello Everyone, I've started this book club because I'd like to read a bit more and also meet some new people.

I think we can all look forward to meeting new people and discovering some books we might never have otherwise picked up. The group is primarily aimed at 20 to 60 year olds who enjoy reading books that typically appear in top 100 lists. We may do a few classics however the aim is to enjoy rather than educate.

Each meetup will cost £2 to cover the cost of using the meetup website.

Discuss The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Needs a location

Very famous comedy science fiction by the late Douglas Adams. This book has been suggested many times by a number of members and features in top 5 of the BBC's the Big Read poll. You may also be familiar with the Radio 4 programme, TV show, film and even computer game of the same name.

I’ll be there just before 7 and will be eating there too.

Cost £2 to cover meetup costs.

Discuss The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker

Needs a location

Described as a feminist Iliad by some, this historical fiction book features Greek mythology reimagined from a previously voiceless woman: Briseis (Achilles' concubine).
Apparently similar in many ways to work by Madeline Miller and Natalie Haynes if you are already familiar and/or liked Circe or A Thousand Ships.

I’ll be there just before 7 and will be eating there too.

Cost £2 to cover meetup costs.
