What we're about

This groups is for anyone looking to improve their photography skills or share their knowledge with others. ALL levels are welcome! We will try to meet in person or online at least once a month for photo walks/sessions. If you can adjust the settings on your camera, then you have what you need to get started in photography!

The goal of the group is to foster a safe and enjoyable environment where photographers of all skill levels can get out, meet like minded people, take photos, and improve their craft.

There are no membership fees to join or remain a member. There are no guide fees for any trips that may be scheduled. Each person is responsible for their own travel expenses and entry fees for parks, venues, etc.

Please RSVP for events. If your plans change and you're not going to make it, please change your response so the event organizer can make an informed decision on whether to move forward with the event.

If you have ideas for where you'd like to have a photo walk, or if you'd like to teach a session, take a trip, or host an event, please message the group organizer.

John Chesnut Sr. Park - Photo Walk

John Chesnut Sr. Park

Join us for the first photo walk of 2021 with the Southshore Photography Group!

This will be an in-person but socially distanced event. Arrive at the designated location to “check-in” with me and then you’re free to walk the park. Anyone wishing to wear a face mask and walk with the group is welcome to do so. Even if you don't walk with the group, please stop and introduce yourself.

After the event, post your top 1-3 photos! If you would like feedback/critique on your photos please post that along with the photo. All members are encouraged to provide positive, constructive feedback of images if the photographer has requested it. Please be respectful and considerate of the opinions of others.

I am not a professional photographer but I will be happy to help anyone that needs help or would like suggestions. Just let me know when you arrive. Hopefully others in the group will share their knowledge and suggestions as well.

Date: Sunday, March 21st @ 7:30 AM (sunrise)
Duration: 2 Hours

John Chesnut Sr. Park
2200 East Lake Road
Palm Harbor, FL 34685

The park is in the East Lake area, approx 45 minutes from Apollo Beach.

CHECK-IN at the parking area near the DOG PARK between 7:30 am and 7:45 am. If you're late, just look for the people photographing the deer or find us on the boardwalk near the observation tower.

I visited the park at sunrise in mid-February and the resident deer were plentiful and active. I also saw many different birds including the following: red tailed hawk, red bellied woodpecker, tufted titmouse, cardinals, and more. There were also a few squirrels looking for an easy breakfast.

Suggested equipment:
- SLR
- Your longest lens
- Flash
- Mosquito spray (there were none in February, but it's Florida so just in case?)

A park map can be found at the top of the park's web-page:
http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/04_chesnut.htm

This is a free event. There are no dues for the group and the park is free as long as you park away from the boat ramp.
