What we're about

CALLING ALL TABLE TOP GAMERS!!!

Like to hang out, play games, laugh, and have a good time? Then SWOTT is the Meetup for you!

Our Meetups focus on table top games. You might think Monopoly, Risk, or Uno, when I say "Table-Top." I mean, they ARE played by people seated around a table and dice, boards, cards, and tokens are involved; but the similarity to those classic games and the games we play end there.

One important difference is there is little to no "TAKE THAT!" in the games we play. Typically, players are working on their own individual goals in a race to cobble together the most points or to complete the most objectives before the other players do. Think of it as co-op-etition.

Another difference is that often times you have no idea who's going to win until the very end - so no suffering in last place while the other player goes lap after lap around the Monopoly board hoarding cash and properties until what feels like 10 hours later they finally declare themselves the victors.

I think another key difference is that there's NO ELIMINATIONS! Most traditional American board games rely on King-Of-The-Hill mechanics where opponents are eliminated and left sitting idly by while everyone else gets to keep playing and have fun.

Table-Top Games have interesting mechanics, flow quickly so even if they are long, the players still feel like time is flying by, and are pretty easy to teach and learn.

We're ALWAYS teaching new games, so new comers are welcome! Plus many SWOTT members bring "Gateway Games" - games best suited for people who are new to the genre, yet are still interesting enough to be enjoyed by even the most seasoned gamer.

Who:

Our group is geared towards adults and older teenagers because the games we play can be lengthy and complex and require the full attention of everyone sitting at the table.

You are allowed to bring your non-participating children with you provided they are well-behaved and don’t distract you or the other players. There are rooms, power outlets, tables, restrooms, and food is allowed on the premises. If your child wants to use an electronic device, you’ll be expected to provide headphones or earbuds. If your child proves to be too much of a distraction or misbehaves (roughhousing, bothering players, ect.), then you may be asked to leave and return at a later time.

Just use common sense. Keep in mind, you’ll be expected to engage with the group for lengthy stretches of time and your child(ren) will naturally want your attention and get bored easily. Unless you’re pretty certain that they’ll be content with whatever activity you bring for them, it might be better to hold off on coming until you make arrangements to come by yourself. We’re a long running gaming group, and we’re not going anywhere. Go home, put Frozen on for the 1,000th time, and hang out with your kids J We’ll be here when you get free!

We have two different meetup times which both take place at Dragon's Guild Hall on Indian Ripple Road in Beavercreek:

Every other Saturday 1P to 11PM or when everyone gets tired of playing.

Every other Friday is from 5:30 (ish) to 11PM or also when everyone gets tired of playing.

Cost: Nothing, nadda, zilch. You'll be responsible for your own refreshments. There are a number of convenience stores and restaurants nearby.

Final Notes:

If you have a game you'd like to try out, you're more than welcome to but we'll play whatever is the group's consensus is.

I reserve the right to ask anyone who isn't behaving themselves to leave. While a good healthy competitive spirit is welcome, I won't tolerate bullies, cheats, or language beyond what you'd find in a PG-13 movie. This is a family friendly group and all are welcome.

Saturday SWOTT

Dragon's Guild Hall

We play a variety of table top games so bring whatever you like to play. We're usually 3-6 players strong each meeting and whatever the group decides on is what we play. We're pretty laid back so it's basically whatever everyone is up for. Now that SWOTT is unlimited, we may be running multiple games at once to accommodate everyone who shows up. There's a Jet's Pizza, Raising Cane's, Burger King nearby, so if you want to munch and play there's options (Just please wash your hands before you play! Respect people's games by NOT getting grease on their components.) Finally, Have Fun! I love the experience of diving into a table top game on a Saturday afternoon. Whether it's the excitement of learning a new game (which is nearly every week), or it's the fun of trying new ways of playing games I already know - I enjoy sitting down with other people to... well... play more games!

SWOTT: After Dark

Dragon's Guildhall

Check out our second day and place! For our SWOTT'ers to the south, we've got the place just for you! Dragons Guildhall in Beavercreek. I wish I could take the credit, but one of our regulars (Thank you, Luke) suggested it. Also? Since Dragons is relatively new, they're trying to build a following. At the moment, there's not a big Friday Night: MTG following there, and even if there was, there is A LOT of space! Our first meetup for SWOTT After Dark is THIS FRIDAY!!! (June 7th) so don't miss it! Oh, and if you're not familiar with what we do, we play games. Lots and lots of games. Old games, new games, dice games, euro games, engine building games, and so on. Also, we're ALWAYS teaching games so don't sweat it if you don't know too many. We have you covered. Don't own games? We do! LOTS AND LOTS OF THEM. So again, we've got you covered. Just have a brain, a heartbeat, and a means of transportation and you'll be just fine!
