Drum Circle/Meditation (Weekly)

Details

What it is:

We combine sound and activity (Drumming) with meditation/mindfulness (based on Raja Yoga, Zen, etc). These two parts complement each other well by allowing us to shift out of our daily rhythm and into a state of relative peace and steady focus. The experience can range from a vacation-like reprieve to life-altering discoveries.

While what we do is derived from Raja/Karma/Jñāna Yoga (higher yogas) and other true esoteric disciplines, no prior experience is required. Your experience will be as deep as you permit it to be. Note that Yoga in this context refers to inner practice, not physical activity.

The Drum Circle component is "lightly facilitated", meaning that more emphasis is placed on the enjoyment of the process itself than on any kind of musical result - so no performance or skill is expected.

In addition to sounds, we sometimes experiment with visualization aids (video, lasers, etc) and other fun toys.

You should know:

Drums and noise making equipment will be provided, but feel free to bring instruments if you have them. Regular chairs are provided for drumming and meditation, but feel free to bring whatever would make you more comfortable.

Duration is flexible, 1 to 2 hours depending on the feel of the moment and individual schedules. This time is typically split between drumming, meditation experiments, and discussion in roughly equal parts.
