What we're about

Are you paralyzed by the mere thought of standing in front of an audience, speaking up at a meeting, presenting your ideas or pitching your business concept? Does your mind 'freeze' when you try to think of something to say on the spot? Would you like to feel more comfortable at job interviews? Fear not. We're an enthusiastic and supportive group of folks who can help – because we've all been there. We'll help you 'think on your feet' as well as look great and feel confident whenever you're ready to deliver a prepared speech. Guaranteed. Our club meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evening of the month [and usually the second Saturday, in the morning] in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We are a chapter of Toastmasters International. We follow the time-tested Toastmasters curriculum, and throw in a few significant variations of our own. Our meetups frequently have a "workshop" vibe.

Visitors are welcome to attend these meetups as guests for free.

Wed, Jan 23: Sparkle When You Speak-Realize your New Year's Resolution

University Hall at Lesley University

Start off the new year by tackling one of your biggest personal challenges and social anxieties. If you're new to Speak Up Cambridge, what should you expect from our meetups? Something fun (Yes, it's possible), entertaining and surprising. First-time (and returning) guests enjoy our simple exercises and learn useful techniques for connecting with an audience. Our meet-ups are fast-paced and engaging. Nobody feels intimidated. Come experience it for yourself: You'll get to listen to prepared speeches and learn simple yet effective speaking tips. You are welcome to participate in our two-minute impromptu speaking exercises, but certainly not required. We do have a 30-second “Round Robin” that everyone participates in (it’s fun and easy), and you’ll probably be asked to introduce yourself [talk very briefly about an interest, or what brought you there]. Pretty basic, no surprises. The only requirement is to enjoy yourself and get a sense of how the meet-ups run. [They start promptly at 6:50, so please arrive by or before 6:45. They end at 8:45 pm.] Who will you meet? People - terrified of addressing a group - who have passed up promotions because of their fear - who want to feel more comfortable speaking at work - who want to tell a story.... or organize their thoughts + think on their feet - tired of feeling ‘tongue-tied’ - ready to find courage and tame their anxiety As well as experienced speakers and evaluators to learn from. Two great events this month. More to come. Stay Tuned. .............................. Third Floor, Room TBD. >> Please take the elevator by the security desk to access the floor. << [There are two entrances to the bldg. You want the door on the right, with the large lobby and the staircase. Walk past the staircase to the security desk.] Subway: Two-minute walk from Porter Sq T stop Parking: If you can't find street parking (Metered until 8 PM !), There is parking to the rear of the bldg. You will present ticket to the security desk on your way out ($6), then insert the ticket at the gate as you exit. Please Note: Parking lot rates double after 3 hrs., so be sure to exit in time. (Don't park in the supermarket/Porter Square shopping center parking lot.) See the "About Us" tab for more info.
