What we're about
This is the Raleigh-Durham Chapter of Speculative Futures, an international community of meetup groups for those interested in the vast array of fields that use design strategies to explore and interrogate potential and alternative futures, including Speculative Design, Critical Design, Design Fiction, Transition Design, Ontological Design, Experiential Futures, and related areas in Strategic Foresight, Futures Thinking, Speculative Ethnography, and SF Literary genres (i.e. Science Fiction, Speculative Fiction, Sci-Fi, Slipstream Fiction, etc.).
The mission of Speculative Futures Raleigh is to provide a platform for organizing events, talks, workshops, exhibits, design jams, and get-togethers that inspire, educate, and illuminate how emerging design futures practices can help organizations, institutions, and society share richer dialogues about the futures by mobilizing design as a "catalyst for social dreaming" (Dunne and Raby, 2013: 189), making "possibles" perceptible and tangible in order to experiment with them.
Speculative Futures Raleigh is a participating community member of the Design Futures Initiative, a nonprofit 501c3 organization based in San Francisco, CA. The Core Purpose of the Design Futures Initiative (DFI) is to host Speculative Futures Meetups and the PRIMER conference.
