What we’re about
Are you a creator, publisher, producer, seller, or supporter of the speculative fiction genres (e.g., fantasy/sci-fi/horror/superhero/slipstream/Afrosurrealism)? Consider joining the Speculative Literature Foundation's new San Francisco Bay Area chapter!
The Speculative Literature Foundation aims to encourage promising new writers, assist established writers, facilitate the work of quality magazines and small presses, and develop a greater public appreciation of speculative fiction. Learn more at SpeculativeLiterature.org.
The San Francisco Bay Area (SFL-SFBA) chapter will initially offer programming that alternates between providing local speculative fiction writers with a space to generate new writing, professional development via panels, and Q&As on publishing and expert knowledge topics. These meetings will take place monthly on third Sundays, at 2 pm.
We will also be building a community calendar of events so all of the great organizations and groups supporting speculative fiction in this area can have a central place to share the amazing work they're doing. Stay tuned for those details!
The SFL-SFBA is co-chaired by Jasmine H. Wade, Audrey T. Williams, and Rebecca Gomez Farrell.
Jasmine H. Wade is a speculative fiction writer in Northern California. She is the Head Curator for Archive of Futures, a community archive documenting future centuries. She is also Co-Creative Director of Ancestral Futures, a non-profit organization that uplifts the voices of BIPOC speculative fiction writers.
Rebecca Gomez Farrell is a speculative fiction writer based in Oakland. She co-organizes the East Bay Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Meetup group and a Bay Area chapter of the national Women Who Submit Lit organization. Becca also moderates two large Facebook discussion groups for speculative and local writers who identify as women and/or genderqueer. Social media: @theGourmez.
Audrey T. Williams moved from North Carolina to Oakland in 2010. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from CCA. Audrey works full-time as a healthcare copywriter in San Francisco. She is an Affiliate Member of SFWA and Co-Founder of AncestralFutures.org, a BIPOC+ speculative literary arts and education nonprofit.
