06:45 Community Update & Q&A- Andy Glover, Netflix
07:00 Intuit Spinnaker Use Case - Jazmin Gonzalez-Rivero
Spinnaker opens up a feature-rich environment full of industry best practices, but what happens when the real world hasn’t yet reached the ideal model? Forbs coded Intuit as a 30-year-old startup. We have a collection of micro-services and larger codebases, moving 22% of US financial transitions and 40% of the nation's taxes. Because of this, we have been addressing a few major challenges during our journey with spinnaker. Come join us to hear about how we leveraged spinnaker to run a heterogeneous set of services supporting massive workloads in production at an enterprise level.
07:30 Pure Storage Use Case - Ben Turk
The Pure Storage team is in the process of migrating services to Spinnaker from Salt. Spinnaker has provided an amazing delivery platform for Pure to build pipelines upon and improve overall service reliability while increasing velocity. Spinnaker has encouraged us to consider our servers "immutable" and what this means. Spinnaker, when combined with Netflix's Chaos monkey, provides a powerful story around resiliency and self-healing.
Bryan Benke is responsible for standardizing cloud-native development at Cisco for Service Providers by allowing developers to take full advantage of open source technologies, security tooling, deployment tooling, and DevOps practices. Bryan has experience in cloud-native development across Cisco groups in networking, analytics, and service orchestration and has multiple degrees from USC and San Francisco State universities.
Andy Glover is the Engineering Manager for Netflix's Delivery Engineering Team, creators of Spinnaker. Before joining Netflix, he served as the CTO of App47, where he lead the development of a SaaS Mobile Application Management platform. Andy is also the co-author of Addison Wesley's "Continuous Integration" book.
Jazmin Gonzalez-Rivero is the technical lead for Intuit’s Spinnaker Initiative Team. Before spinning up the Spinnaker team, Jazmin was a part of Quickbooks Online DevOps team for 2 years where she gained first-hand experience with both customer and developer pain. Jazmin graduated Olin College of Engineering with a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Ben Turk is a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) for Pure Storage’s Cloud Teams. Ben is driving the deployment of Spinnaker at Pure and evangelizing the adoption of it. Before joining Pure Ben was an SRE at Lyve Minds which was acquired by Seagate. Ben has many years experience in designing and implementing solutions at scale.
