Spirits and Spirituality is a new project of the Church of the Common Table. It's a new kind of gathering - our version of "pub theology". We're choosing to gather over drinks for "Spirits and Spirituality" at the new Caboose Commons near Mosaic District in Fairfax/Merrifield beginning March 27th from 7-8:30 pm. In true Common Table fashion, expect more questions than answers. Everyone of any or no faith is welcome. We run the gamut ourselves. Geeks, introverts, and people who maybe have been made to feel like they weren't welcome in church are extra-welcome here.
We'll probably come with some questions just to get the discussion rolling, but there's no set program as of yet. Help shape the future of this new fun thing.
Church of the Common Table is a small group that typically meets three Sundays a month for worship services at the Church of the Good Shepherd (United Methodist Church) in Northern Virginia. We're hosted by, and partner with, Good Shepherd UMC, but we are a trans-denominational group including folks who identify with various Christian traditions or none of them!
During our worship services, we focus on meeting God and following Jesus through art, poetry, music, discussion, and the sacrament of the Eucharist. Fourth Sundays are an opportunity for us to serve our community in a variety of ways, something we refer to as "Barn Raisings". This schedule is a reflection of our understanding of Jesus’ reply when asked, "which is the greatest commandment?": "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself."
If you're a Christian of any background who values justice, authenticity, vulnerability, doubt, and multiple perspectives (rather than "one right answer"), or someone who identifies as "spiritual but not religious", or someone of a different faith or no faith who is hungry for a community that helps others (and is more interested in being converted by you than converting you), please join us!
