What is the purpose of our existence?

Probably every one of us has been confronted with the question „Why was I actually born?” and „Does my life on Earth have a meaning”?

Some see the meaning of life in striving for enjoyment and fulfilling one’s wishes and satisfying one’s desires. Others find meaning in contributing to the lives of others and the greater good, i.e. wanting to be useful.

We could say, something is meaningful, when it has a purpose. But does everything in the world have a purpose?

The prevailing view of natural scientists is that the world, including human beings, came into existence by coincidence. In other words: without any special purpose or meaning. Isn’t this a rather hopeless worldview?

Searching for the meaning of life is also searching for our purpose in Creation and finding the answers to: “Where does the human spirit come from?”, “Why do we live on Earth” and “Where does the spirit go after passing from this world?”

At our meeting we will discuss questions related to this big subject.

Questions - Spiritual Discussion Group:

Life goals

Most people see their life goals as success in carrier, family, relationships, wealth, power. Do you think that there is more to life than theses concepts?

Spirit & Development

Where do our spirits come from?
Why do we live on Earth?
Why have we been continuously reincarnating?
Where does the spirit go?
Why is this entire process necessary?

sorry cant make it ,still in new york state .
but i would say that the soul has an intrinsic urge
to come into action and it needs a body to do that .
and that maybe the whole world is a stage for the soul to do just that .

Unfortunately I cannot make the meeting, but would like to leave one thought about our coming into being, if I may.
At its simplest level, I suspect that we, and all living organisms, are merely a by product of the universe.
I think it may be true that living matter has a tendency to grow and die (given the right circumstances, heat, light etc.) when a form of light in the Universe ignites a biological process, of which we are the end result. I think this light has a tendency to earth itself through matter and cause that matter to grow until such time as the matter cannot sustain itself in the environment and dies. The point of ignition is when the circumstances are right, and all the chromosones in the right place at the right time; e.g. sperm meeting egg etc. This process is little more significant than the expansion of bacteria in a petri dish. For me, as a "Clairvoyant", what interests me is the light; particularly from an Electromagnetic Spectrum point of view. Just a thought. x

I would really have liked to come along and hear the views of others but I'm committed to a cycle this day. I convinced myself for years that all I needed to know about purpose was 'survival and reproduction' but all I did was suppress my intuitive side and deny myself the happy moments i now get through meditation. I still embrace science and evolution but I also deeply believe that i must now try and connect with the energy that created the universe through meditation.

I am just a beginner. But I feel there is something in us. We are everything. One fine day I was meditating and found myself very uncomfortable. I puked and was shivering. It was like too much of information and no one to talk to . I tried writing about it on a blog. I am not sure what it was. Let me know if you can figure something out of it.

Hi Minas.....no-one is really a "beginner" because your Inner Self knows everything about everything even though you may not be conscious of it. The story goes that one of the Tibetan monks rushed up to the one who had been teaching him meditation in great excitement crying, " Master! Master! Today in meditation, I saw the Buddha!" and the Master replied to the his student, "Don't worry, he will soon go away!" There are many forms of meditation but I think the one that is the greatest help is to have a blank mind - to be totally "at one" with "now."
