Let’s go back to school and learn the Big Data basics! For our first lesson we’ll shed some light on those “V”s that everyone is talking about and go through some core tools in the Hadoop toolbox like HDFS, Flume, Hive, Sqoop, Spark, Storm, and Kafka. There will be a quiz on how to apply these tools to a few example use cases - no scantron or #2 pencils required. We’ll wrap up with a discussion around the push towards cloud and leave you with some information on how you can get your learning environment setup for free using your own laptop or cheap in the cloud.

Kit Menke is a Lead Architect at Enterprise Holdings and a speaker at StampedeCon/DataWorks Summit. Recently, as a part of an innovation team, he has been focused on Big Data in the cloud and building next generation Data Warehouse on Microsoft Azure. Previously he worked extensively with SharePoint and web applications.
