Game Recap, 2014-01-04

Due to illnesses and work, we had to postpone the continuation of our campaign. So instead, we played a different engagement:

ISC vs. Federation

The ISC fleet consisted of two Destroyers (DD-James) and one Strike Cruiser (SC-Kerry), playing against a Federation force of one New Heavy Cruiser and one Kirov Class Battlecruiser (NCA and BGC-Tony).

The Two sides moved toward each other. The ISC fired its PPDs from the SC, but most of the pulses missed, only causing minor damage to the front shield of the BGC. The ISC ships also unleashed a barrage of 7 Plasma-F torpedoes. The Federation ships continued to close distance, launching a wave of drones to harass the enemy.

At the beginnig of turn 2, the BGC performed an HET and began moving directly away from the incoming torpedoes. The Federation NCA fired overloaded photons at one of the DDs, but only half of them hit. This knocked down the front shield of the ISC DD, but caused very little internal damage of any consequence. The NCA continued pursuit of the ISC ships, which turned away to maintain distance and recharge weapons. The NCA fired phasers to weaken the Plasma torpedoes as it passed. The BGC led the torpedoes away until they fizzled out, then turned and began to move back toward the combat.

On turn 3, the Federation ships moved toward the ISC. More drones were launched from the NCA. The ISC ships stopped, and again fired PPDs, this time at the nearer NCA. Both hit, and the overloaded PPDs tore into the NCA, causing heavy damage. The NCA, in return, unloaded phasers into the damaged DD, but due to inept weapons crews, did nothing more than hull damage and taking out one Phaser-3. (Enjoy floating in the vacuum of space, you flaming idiots!) The ISC launched more plasma torpedoes, which destroyed the NCA. The BGC raced up to the ISC ships and unleashed an alpha-strike on the ISC SC. The attacked took out the shields of the ship and caused heavy internal damage. Follow-up phaser damage, combined with drones launched at range-0, destroyed the SC. The DDs turned to move away, laying t-bombs in the path of the BGC, but tha damaged DD struck a t-bomb laid by the BGC as it approached. The damage gutted the ship.

At this point, the ISC announced its withdrawal from combat. The scores were as follows:

ISC: 165
Federation: 222

The battle was a marginal victory for the Federation forces. The ISC force was well-played, making excellent use of the PPDs and plasma torpedoes. However, the aplha-strike from the BGC on the ISC cruiser was overwhelming.
