Riaz Moola (Hyperion Development - Google)
Riaz Moola is the Founder and Director of Hyperion Development - which is the largest online course platform for programmers in Africa. Moola previously worked at Google as a product manager and was on the Google Search team that created the “Ok Google” (Google Voice Search which is similar to Siri) and the team that created Android.
The Sunday Times has recently labelled him the Steve Jobs of South Africa (http://www.timeslive.co.za/sundaytimes/stnews/2016/03/13/Is-23-year-Riaz-Moola-South-Africas-Steve-Jobs)
Moola became a Gates Cambridge scholar in 2014, and holds a MPhil in Advanced Computer Science from the University of Cambridge and also a MPhil in Technology Policy from the University of Cambridge Business School.
Riaz Moola’s love for computer science led him to create Hyperion Development in 2012 while he was an undergraduate at the University of Kwazulu Natal. His goal was to invent an online course where people could still take courses with limited internet access
Since it has launched it has helped over 8500 people from six Southern African countries in software development training.
The startup also recently partnered with international tech company Google for R1.3-million to help further computing-related fields in South Africa that are matched by international standards.
