Ryan Bonhardt, Maker-Based
Ryan Bonhardt is the founder of Maker-Based and is bridging the gap between what students should be and are learning. He has a passion for improving, both the method and material people teach and learn. In college Ryan did his senior thesis as an Economics major on how curriculum affects entrepreneurial output in students. That’s just a fancy way of saying he was trying to figure out if what we learned actually mattered or whether education was a smoke signal for high performers.
After college Ryan started teaching himself web and mobile development. During that time he realized a couple things. First, that the resources to learn coding were ineffective and poorly done - almost like they were intended to be that way. How easy it would be to learn coding if taught correctly. And how many job opportunities students and anyone could have if they possessed these skills.
Maker-Based Academy has taught over 14,000 students HTML and CSS skills and aims to teach many more students “life changing skills in less than 20 hours”. And now with Maker Based Education, Ryan aims to positively disrupt education and change how and what schools teach. To do this Maker Based Education is focusing on training teachers to bring coding and other maker-based courses into their curriculum.
