What is InfoCamp?
InfoCamp Berkeley is an unconference-style event for the information community.
It features an egalitarian, community-driven format in which most presentations are designed and delivered by participants. And it’s a lot of fun! InfoCamp Berkeley is for anyone interested in web and mobile technologies, user experience, information architecture, interaction design, information management, information design, online search, informatics, and related fields.
There are no pre-determined session topics or presenters, other than a keynote session. You, the participants, create and lead most of the sessions! You determine the topic and format of your session, and pitch your session idea to the group, and sign up for a time slot. The exact schedule will be created as we go.
The purpose of this format is to encourage collaboration, interaction, discussion, and real-time innovation. The benefits of this format include the immediacy of the topics – the sessions didn’t have to be submitted months ahead of time – and the fun, exciting (and a bit chaotic) feeling of being part of an event that’s being led by everyone.
Keynote Speaker: Diane Murphy on "Compassionate Content"
We are thrilled to announce our keynote speaker, Diane Murphy!
Diane has nearly a decade of experience developing content for some of the best-known user interfaces, including Facebook, PayPal and eBay. She worked as a writer at Interbrand, a leading brand agency in New York City. After relocating to the West Coast, Diane led content strategy for the resolution centers of PayPal and eBay, and helped develop the eBay voice and tone. At the beginning of 2012, she joined the content strategy team at Facebook, and is currently writing and designing content related to site integrity and photos.
Diane will speak about empathy in language and design in a session called “Compassionate Content: Developing Social Resolution for Photos on Facebook.”
The session schedule at InfoCamp is determined on the day of the event. InfoCamp is amazing because of all the great people who come and run sessions! We need people like you to lead discussions on topics you think are interesting to the information community.

How do I sign up for a session?
At 9am on March 16th, a big blank schedule will go up on the wall inside South Hall. At that point, anyone can pick a time slot and sign up to host a session.
In the meantime, fill out our session survey to indicate your topics of interest and find out what others are thinking about.
What kinds of sessions can I create?
You can be as creative as you like with your session content and format. For instance, you could…
* gather people to discuss a common interest
* solicit feedback on a design
* demo a half-baked product
* organize a panel
* present research findings
* set up a debate on a controversial topic
* start a conversation group
* discuss solutions to a problem
* brainstorm an idea
What if I don't have an idea for a session?
Attend anyway! You’re sure to have an opinion or question about what’s being presented, so you can participate by joining in the discussion. And who knows – maybe the discussions will spark an idea that you want to share or present as the day goes on!
For full details, check out our website:http://berkeley.infocamp.org/.
We'll provide coffee, lunch, and snacks throughout the day. Can't wait to see you there!
