Statistics/Data science careers evening and networking event
Are you nearing the end of your degree in statistics or data science? Feeling unsure about what to do next? You are invited to the 2018 Careers Evening hosted by the Victorian Branch of the Statistical Society of Australia (SSA) on Tuesday the 27th of November. This event is aimed at people with backgrounds in statistics and data science who have recently finished, or are nearing the end of their tertiary studies. (More experienced attendees are also welcome!) The first part of the evening will showcase a diverse panel who have successfully forged a career using their knowledge of statistics, data science and visualisation. We’ll chat about a wide range of relevant topics, including: how to hone your skills for a career in statistics, navigating a career that you enjoy, a day in the life of a professional, searching and applying for jobs. The second part of the evening will give attendees an opportunity to chat with the speakers and other SSA members more intimately and informally over food and drink. The $20 cost of this meet-and-greet includes 1 year of membership to the SSA for students, and also covers food and drink on the night. This is a great bargain! Existing SSA members may attend for free. Our speakers are: - Amanda Aitken (actuary, Actuarial Edge); - Steve Bennett (data viz freelancer); - Nick Husek (statistician, ABS); - Karen Lamb (biostatistician, MCRI); - Linda McIver (teacher and director, Australian Data Science Education Institute) - James Wilson (CEO, Eliiza).
