The Stellenbosch Mindfulness Meditation Meetup is a meditation group for people living in the Stellenbosch / Somerset West / Paarl area. (READ MORE BELOW)


We meet regularly - on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Friday's - for classes and instruction in various methods of meditation, including:

*Beginners Mindfulness Meditation Course - 5 week course - non-religious meditation

Mindfulness Meditation is a Western, sectarian, research-based form of meditation based on the Vipassana method of meditation. Mindfulness is a state of equanimity in which, together with careful observation and the right concentration, you become aware of the activity of your own mind and your body. With regular practice, Mindfulness will produce a more meaningful awareness of the present, with acceptance and without judgment.

*Weekly drop-in Meditation group - for First-timers, Beginners and Advanced practitioners. We usually practice samatha or mindfulness meditation. If you are interested in finding out more about meditation, this is the class for you! The class starts with an intro. If you are new and you arrive a little earlier, some basic instruction on posture, sitting, breathing, what to do, etc., is available before the class starts.

We meet weekly - the drop-in classes are on a "come and join us when you can" basis - I post an RSVP request a day or so before in order that I know how many people to set up for.

*Upcoming: Zazen Meditation classes (Zen sitting meditation classes) and Zazenkai group meetings (zazenkai (座禅会), literally meaning "to come together for meditation" is a Zen Buddhist meeting of lay practitioners who practice together regularly without a resident teacher.)

We welcome anyone who is interested in any method of meditation, at any level, regardless of spiritual or religious persuasion. Our aim is to teach secular / non-spiritual meditation as a form of mind training to help all of you to be happy. Meditation helps to train the mind to be concentrated and calm, which is very helpful to live a more peaceful and less stressful life. Our classes are available to beginners or to support those who already meditate or maintain regular meditation home practice.

Please note that this is a non-profit class and payments go toward running costs including studio fees, meetup fees and the purchase of equipment such as zafus, zabutons, singing bowls, etc. Costs should not be a hindrance to joining our classes. No one will be refused based on cost. We aim to sponsor anyone not able to afford a class or activity related to meditation.

Who am I? I am a meditation teacher, married and mother of a teenager. I am also a 'mature' student :).

I have recently completed my Diploma studies in Buddhist Psychology (Theory). I am a qualified Reiki practitioner, and have recently completed a Yoga Teachers Training course (YTT200). I run a farm, a family and have a busy life. My aim is to share what I have learnt, and continue to learn, through the patience and guidance of others over the years, incorporating the challenges of training in mindfulness and meditation whilst balancing and juggling a busy schedule, family life and career.

I first discovered meditation, Buddhism and Dharma in 1992 while on holiday in the Far East and it has been a life-long preoccupation. I have subsequently studied various forms of meditation, including TM, Samatha, Vipassana & Zazen. After 15 years as managing-owner of a company in the film industry, I gave it up to follow my interest full-time: Meditation, Dharma and the Philosophy of Mindfulness.

I am enthusiastic about meditation and its incredible impact, and I would very much like to share the wisdom of meditation practice with you.
