This Meetup Group will focus on the Apache Kafka® technology and its ecosystem, also allowing its members to interact and share their use cases, dos and don’ts, how tos, etc.
We will also hear about the Confluent Platform, Confluent Cloud and topics like Kafka’s Connect API and streaming data pipelines, ksqlDB, Kafka’s Streams API and stream processing, Security, Microservices and anything else related to Apache Kafka®.
In order to do our part to help flatten the curve of the spread of COVID-19, we are moving all of our meetups online for the time being. Please find the details to join this fun and informative meetup below.

A question of balance: improved consumer group rebalancing
The dynamic assignment of consumer instances to partitions is crucial for the scalability and fault tolerance of applications leveraging Apache Kafka. But unnecessary rebalancing can cause applications to grind to a standstill. After a quick refresher on the traditional ‘eager’ consumer group rebalancing protocol we will survey recent improvements in the protocol such as static membership and increment cooperative rebalancing. Moreover, we will give practical advice on how to minimize rebalancing time for different types of applications.
Christoph is a Solutions Architect with Confluent. Before joining Confluent, he developed streaming applications for the financial services industry and mobile applications for about everyone else.
He holds a PhD in Mathematics and has a long-lasting interest in developing performant and secure software systems.
