Code talk&lab: Open source serverless with Apache OpenWhisk/IBM Cloud Functions
Details
Born out of IBM research in 2015 and donated to Apache in 2016, OpenWhisk is the currently most mature serverless approach available to run both as a cloud service, as IBM Cloud Functions, and on-premise datacenter. And where you can contribute to the future direction and development yourself. Currently with 160+ contributors on GitHub including RedHat and Adobe. https://openwhisk.apache.org/
OpenWhisk/IBM Cloud Functions supports a programming model in which developers write functional logic (called Actions https://github.com/apache/openwhisk/blob/master/docs/actions.md#openwhisk-actions), in any supported programming language, that can be dynamically scheduled and run in response to associated events (via Triggers https://github.com/apache/openwhisk/blob/master/docs/triggers_rules.md#creating-triggers-and-rules) from external sources (Feeds https://github.com/apache/openwhisk/blob/master/docs/feeds.md#implementing-feeds) or from HTTP requests. https://cloud.ibm.com/functions/
