What we're about

Try new games, meet new people, and find out what story games are all about! We play roleplaying games like The Quiet Year, Microscope, Fiasco, and Apocalypse World that encourage everyone at the table to participate creatively.

We'll meetup at a local game store and play some games. Everybody's welcome, and we support and encourage an inclusive and safe space. It doesn't matter if you've never tried story games before or never played roleplaying games at all. Just bring your brain and a good attitude and come try it out!

We have an active Twitter, found at https://twitter.com/SGGlendale . Our Community Standards document can be found at https://bit.ly/SGG_CommunityStandards .

Indie RPG Game Night in Glendale

Online event

NOTICE: We have changed our start time. Starting at 6pm come to socialize. At 6:30pm (previously: 7pm) we gather to pitch games and get into tables. Also our Open Door Policy is strongly in effect, and if you aren't feeling up to gaming you can leave at any time, even after socializing or listening to games being played. Due to pandemic our meetups occur online in the Story Games Glendale Discord (https://discord.gg/sqwh7p7), instead of our usual location at Game Haus Cafe. Please RSVP here so we get an idea of attendance. See you online! --------------- Come join our Tuesday evening Indie RPG Night where we play story games and independent role-playing games (RPGs). Some games have a game master and players in a way similar to Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) and traditional RPGs; examples include Apocalypse World, Dungeon World, and Blades in the Dark. Some games are “GM-less” and have no game master, instead using shared narrative authority; examples include Microscope, Fiasco, and The Quiet Year. Everyone of any experience level is welcome, with no prior knowledge required. Almost all games are one-shots or episodic, so no regular attendance is necessary. If you plan on attending, please RSVP so we can arrange for the right number and sized tables. If your plans change, please update your RSVP as early as possible so we have an accurate count. If there are no attendees close to the date, we may cancel the meetup (check that specific date on our calendar for details). Location will be at Game Haus Cafe in Glendale. GameHaus charges $5 as a cover (payable directly to them upon entrance). They serve a variety of hot and cold foods and drinks (including beer and wine). We'll pitch games promptly at 7:00pm, and games generally run until 10pm-11pm. A few of us will be there at 6:30pm, so show up early if you want to do introductions and social stuff. Game Haus Café closes at 11pm on Tuesdays. We try to provide an inclusive space, and do not tolerate harassment or prejudice of any kind, including that based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or disabilities. (If you have any issues, please contact one of the meetup organizers at any time, either during the meetup or afterwards.) We use the X-card and other RPG safety mechanics, and will discuss these just prior to gaming. For details, please read our Community Standards document at https://bit.ly/SGG_CommunityStandards. If you plan on pitching or facilitating a game, try and bring the materials you need to play (rules, notecards, blank paper, tokens, and so on). We may have of these items, but may not have everything you need.

RPG Makers Meetup

Online event

NOTICE: We have changed our start time to 6:30pm (previously: 7pm). Due to pandemic our meetups occur online in the Story Games Glendale Discord (https://discord.gg/sqwh7p7), instead of our usual location at Game Haus Cafe. Please RSVP here so we get an idea of attendance. See you online! --------------- Although we might be known for our biweekly Indie RPG Night, on alternating Tuesday evenings we now run our RPG Maker's Meetup! Come join us if you are interested in discussing topics around role playing and story game design, as well as optionally playtesting elements of people's games. Although this session will be about game design, you do not need to be an "established" or "published" designer. The meetup is open to anyone who is interested. Feel free to join before 7pm if you'd like to chit chat a bit prior to start time. We'll start at 7:00pm, and will likely start with a Game Design Lean Coffee session that will last approximately 30 minutes or more. (What is Lean Coffee? It's a structured question and answer session where everyone participates, with shared spotlight. See https://leancoffee.org/ for more details.) After that, we will likely see where everyone is at, and possibly do a random "draw names from a hat" to see if anyone wants to playtest or discuss a small part of a game they are working on. We try to provide an inclusive space, and do not tolerate harassment or prejudice of any kind, including that based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or disabilities. (If you have any issues, please contact one of the meetup organizers at any time, either during the meetup or afterwards.) We use the X-card and other RPG safety mechanics, and will discuss these just prior to the session.
