The Suncoast Audiophile Society (founded in 1994 as the Tampa Bay Listening Society) is a local group of audio enthusiasts who share an appreciation for great sound. We meet at least once a month (currently via Zoom during the pandemic), and focus on the high fidelity reproduction of music, both analog and digital, using live performance as our benchmark. Our aim is to foster camaraderie, and share knowledge and experiences in support of local audio hobbyists. Towards that end, some members of our club organized the Florida Audio Expo (https://floridaaudioexpo.com) in Tampa, with the inaugural show Feb 2019, and plans for it to become an annual regional audio show.
The club holds formal meetings at least once a month (usually weekends) for listening sessions, gear demo's, audio chat, and/or live music. We also encourage members to host "Mini Meets" for smaller scale listening sessions. Meetup only allows an Organizer/Board Member to schedule an event, so please contact one of us if you'd like to host a formal Monthly meeting, or "Mini Meet."
We welcome prospective members (age 18+) from the entire Florida Suncoast region, and respectfully require all prospective members to register with their real name (may optionally change last name to an initial, after membership approval).
Our current Board of Directors (all uncompensated volunteers) are...
President- Bart Andeer
Treasurer- Richard Setera
Webmaster- Alan Nastir
Membership Co-Chairs- Alan Nastir and Mark Routen
Board Member at Large- Gary Eickmeier, Francis Endryck, Lenny Plotkin
Director of Marketing- Open
Prospective members must complete our brief online questionnaire. We'll follow up with you within a few days, via the Meetup message app online (also via email), requesting your phone number, so we can personally call and answer any questions before approving your membership. Please make sure you forward your phone number when requested. Your phone number will remain private.
**Note** We have suspended dues collection during the pandemic, but will resume once we are again meeting in person (with food and beverages, giveaways, etc.)
Paid membership is required for attendance at club meetings. However, prospective new members may attend their first meeting for free (excluding our December Annual Holiday Party). Dues are $60/yr (payable annually), and help cover our website costs, membership perks, meeting munchies/door prizes, and occasional live music performances. With club approval, occasional long-distance attendees who reside outside a 50 mile radius of downtown Tampa may opt to pay $5 at-the-door per meeting, but will not receive our SAS polo shirt, nor other logo'd items or club membership perks. Our club Discussion Forums remain publicly accessible for all local (and distant) high-end audio enthusiasts who are not paying members, but wish to remain in touch with local audiophile goings-on.
Waiver and Release of Liability
All club members, by virtue of their request to join and participate in any activity (in person or online) of the Suncoast Audiophile Society (SAS), including related meetings and all other activities, acknowledge and agree to release the SAS from any and all liability whatsoever, and further covenants and agrees that the club member shall not hold said organization, or any of its officers or members liable (solely, jointly, or severally), for any injury or damage whatsoever incurred directly or indirectly during their voluntary participation in any event organized or hosted by the club, nor the premises in which the event occurs.
Membership dues only partially subsidize our actual club costs. In order to continue our growth, and provide more varied programming and live music, we welcome additional financial support from local audio, home theater, and music related businesses (members too!). Please contact us if you would like to become a club sponsor or otherwise provide additional financial support.
In the meantime, here are some teaser pics from prior meetings. Only dues-paying Members have full online access for meeting announcements and location, and our full photo gallery. However, any interested audiophiles may participate in our discussion forum.
