Let's Make Room for Croom! (a 7+ mile hilly hike)
Tucker Hill Day Use Area, 26560 Croom Rd,, Brooksville, FL, USLet's show Croom C some SO love <3. Note, I am not able to do prehikes so please be prepared for anything.
"Croom C" refers to a hiking trail within the Croom Tract of Withlacoochee State Forest in Central Florida. These trails are known for their hard-packed, generally dry conditions, and scenic views through scrub land. The trails offer diverse scenery, including ROLLING HILLS, pine flatwoods, and hammocks with cypress trees. On a sunny, fall day, hikers can expect a lot of sunshine. See a map of the trails at https://ccmedia.fdacs.gov/content/download/115593/file/croom-hiking-trail-brochure.pdf.
Due to the distance and elevation, this hike is considered to be a moderately challenging one. We will keep a moderate pace so please only sign up if you have recently completed a 7-mile hike, traveling 2.25 miles per hour. You must also have experience with hiking in the heat. As well, there is no water or bathrooms on the trail but the bathrooms in the park lot should be open.
One more thing you need to know—there is a parking fee. Pay the $2.00 daily fee online on the day you need it at Pass Details - Florida State Forests or scan a QR code in the parking lot. An annual Florida State Forest Pass will cover you, too.
This is a rain or shine hike unless there is a threat of lightning.
On the day of the hike, we will meet at 8:15 am and leave promptly at 8:20 am. We are meeting in the parking lot at Tucker Hill.
For this hike, you will need at least 3 liters of water, snacks, bug/tick spray, sunscreen, a hat, hiking boots (no sandals) and anything else you deem necessary for your comfort. For the snack break, you might want to bring a ground cloth to sit on.
My number on the day of the hike is 813-713-2492.
I am asking that everyone signs up (no guests) so everyone can agree to the waiver and agree to the following conditions:

☀️Let's Explore 🦅Terra Ceia Preserve State Park🌴🦜
Terra Ceia Preserve State Park, 610 hightower rd, terra ceia, FL, USThis little gem has really only been accessible to the public since about 2015 when the first trails were built with the assistance and hard work of the Suncoast Chapter, Florida Trail Association.
The nine miles of trails are perfect for birding and other wildlife viewing. Native and migrating birds take shelter in the lush forests. You may see little blue herons, white ibis, or even a bald eagle soaring above you.Kayaking and canoeing are also a popular activity. The waterways wind through thick mangrove tunnels, where your kayak can glide under their outstretched limbs. Freshwater and saltwater make up this park providing for a wide array of piscine species.
It's been several years since we've visited. It has been a work in progress. I am looking forward to exploring and seeing how the understory has changed.
This will be 75% sun. So dress and prepare accordingly. No facilities or water at the trail head. There is no parking or day use fee.
Afterwards, we'll go to the THE CITRUS PLACE. The Citrus PlaceYOUR RSVP TO ATTEND A "SUNCOAST OUTDOORS " SPONSORED EVENT IS YOUR EXPRESS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING AND UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE OF FULL PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY FOR ALL ASSOCIATED RISKS.

Crack of Dawn — Crocadoodledoo at Circle B (a 6+/- Mile Hike)
Circle B Bar Reserve, 4399 Winter Lake Road, Lakeland, FL, USYay Circle B!! Let's give CB a little LOVE on this early morning hike! Not only will we beat some of the heat, I hope to see more wildlife—the internet says it's the best time as the animals shift to daytime behavior!
Circle B Bar Reserve is located at 4399 Winter Lake Road (SR 540) in Lakeland, FL. For Google maps use Polk’s Nature Discovery Center, Discovery Drive, Lakeland, FL. There are no fees to enter or park at Circle B.
Here’s the deets—
Let’s meet at 7am in the second parking lot on the right after entering the park (near the lost bridge trail). Note you will pass a small parking lot close to the gate - keep going to the next lot).
Circle B is a great park to see wildlife, especially alligators and birds. It is a popular park for this reason and it is also free. We will walk at a moderate pace, however there will be opportunities to stop and observe the wildlife.
We will do most trails or parts of them with a little overlap, depending on what is open. I'm hoping we can do the following: start with a dry piece of lost bridge, then proceed to treefrog, windmill whisper, wading bird way, eagle roost, marsh rabbit run*, alligator alley*, lake trek, and finish with lost bridge. This final piece of lost bridge may be wet and it’s worth getting your feet wet but since this is at the end of the hike, you can choose to opt out. The planned hike is about 6 miles in duration.
Overall, this hike is an easy one IF YOU CAN DO 6 MILES IN 3 HOURS IN THE FLORIDA HEAT. There can be a lot of sun on some of the trails so wear a hat. We may encounter some wet or muddy conditions before we get to the lost bridge and in those instances, we will power through. This is a rain or shine event :) unless there is a threat of lightning.
When coming on this hike, please bring 2 liters of water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, and whatever else you might need to be comfortable. Be sure to wear proper footwear (closed-toed shoes, preferably hikers) and a hat. Dogs are not allowed at Circle B.
You might also want to bring a ground cloth to sit on during the snack break.
There are porta-potties near the parking lots and even thought are restrooms with running water near the Nature Center, they will be closed.
For more information about Circle B, please visit https://www.polk-county.net/park/circle-b-bar-reserve/.
My number on the day of the hike only is 813-713-2492.
