FREE Fab Lab Orientation
FREE Orientation classes are held every Thursday at 5PM and every Saturday at 1PM. For those of you who have not yet taken the orientation at the Fab Lab this is a FREE class and is the first required step you must complete prior to being able to work in the space. The Faulhaber Fab Lab is a non-profit digital fabrication lab where students, teachers, hobbyists, entrepreneurs, business owners, retirees, inventors, or anyone with curiosity and a tinkering spirit can make their ideas come to life. During March, April, and May 2015 we will be operating in beta mode with members of Suncoast Makers, as well as teachers and students from Sarasota County Schools. To join the Fab Lab, download and complete our membership/waiver form, and return it to us. You may then select your membership option here: Membership Options. (!fablab/c1pc1)

What we're about

Fab labs provide widespread access to modern means for invention. They began as an outreach project from MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA). CBA assembled millions of dollars in machines for research in digital fabrication, ultimately aiming at developing programmable molecular assemblers that will be able to make almost anything. Equipped with state-of-the-art machines and materials, the Faulhaber Fab Lab can be used to fabricate your own inventions with the support of knowledgeable staff. Fab labs have spread from inner-city Boston to rural India, from South Africa to the North of Norway. Activities in fab labs range from technological empowerment to peer-to-peer project-based technical training, to local problem-solving, to small-scale high-tech business incubation and to grass-roots research. Projects being developed and produced in fab labs include solar and wind-powered turbines, thin-client computers and wireless data networks, analytical instrumentation for agriculture and healthcare, custom housing, and rapid-prototyping of rapid-prototyping machines.
