Do you have an open mind--open to the possibility that you may be wrong about something?

I am a life long learner and love new information and evidence to back it up. As an atheist and one who has been active for many years in activism, I am hungry for new information which will improve the human condition and which will preserve our planet. If someone proves me wrong, I am grateful for the opportunity to move forward with the correct information. I strive to make decisions in my life which are based on reality, instead of on beliefs.

Are you willing to have your beliefs and ideas challenged; and to challenge ours? Do you have a thick-skin?

I love the exchange of ideas. How people live should be based on reality, but at the same time, one's personal morality and values may certainly differ from person to person, but should always be based on doing as little harm to others as possible. By being challenged and challenging others, it makes me think, which unlike many people, is something I value.

Are you familiar with some basic logical fallacies? If not, please do an Internet search and learn about them.

Logical fallacies are the basis of religion, which gives the religionist an excuse to preserve his emotional response to life, his fear to examine what he thought was concrete, and a way not to challenge his fear of his mortality. It is very frustrating when believers and others at times, use false premises, or personal attacks to make an argument.

How did you hear about the Suncoast Skeptics?

I have been involved in a number of free thought groups through the years and I and my sister would like to increase our friends, who are able to share thoughts and discuss issues on a higher level. Towards the endeavor, I did an internet search and found this group.
