What we're about
Sunday Assembly is a non-religious community that meets monthly in cities around the world to hear great talks, connect for community projects and groups, sing songs and generally celebrate life. In short, it's all the best bits of church, but without any religion, and with awesome pop songs!
We are an established community in Newcastle, with around a hundred people attending monthly Assemblies, but we are new to Meetup. Please check out our Facebook page to see our past successful events!
Assemblies are free to attend, and everyone is welcome - we are radically inclusive.
Our motto: live better, help often, wonder more.
LIVE BETTER: We aim to provide inspiring, thought-provoking and practical ideas that help people to live the lives they want to lead and be the people they want to be.
HELP OFTEN: Assemblies are communities of action, building lives of purpose, encouraging us all to help anyone who needs it to support each other.
WONDER MORE: Hearing talks, singing as one, listening to readings and even playing games helps us to connect with each other and the awesome world we live in.
We have no doctrine, no set texts, and no deity. We don't do religion or supernatural, but we also won’t tell you you’re wrong if you do. We are not-for-profit and volunteer run. We ask only for non-compulsory donations to cover our costs and support our community work. The Sunday Assembly is a celebration of the one life we know we have!
In addition to monthly assemblies, this Meetup group will be for social events, community projects and other fun activities related to Sunday Assembly.
Sunday Assembly was started in London in January 2013 by two stand-up comedians who, having lost their Christian faith, realised they missed some elements of church. It now has communities in over 70 cities across the globe, and has been featured all over the media worldwide. Google us!
