Note that this trip could be cancelled pending the current political situation and the Covid 19 situation that is making it difficult to obtain an evisa/visa. The situation could only be assessed closer to the departure date.
WIZZAIR HAVE CANCELLED FLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY AND E-VISAS ARE NOT BEING ISSUED DUE TO CORONA VIRUS. THIS TRIP WILL THEREFORE BE RESCHEDULED TO A LATER DATE. IN THE MEANTIME REGISTER YOUR INTEREST BY CLICKING JOINING.
This Moscow Weekend in February will be a significant change from the "Sunny" destinations we usually choose for our trips although a Russian Winter is something worth experiencing!
The average February temperature is -3C to -10C (so thick costs and good shoes, hats and gloves are necessary) but then we expect to spent a lot of time indoors and the queues to get into the tourist attractions should be easily manageable.
Currently flights are cheap. Evisas for those holding certain passports from a list of 53 countries can be obtained against a fee of $40 but otherwise full visas are required that could require more difficulty and expense to obtain.
(Note that as of the 10 November 2021 no evisas are being issued due to the Covid situation). For further details relating to your own personal situation please see the following:
Re Covid 19: To enter Russia a PCR test taken 72 hours before arrival is required. There could also be an issue entering certain venues e.g. Bolshoi or museums without a PCR certificate that is not more than 24 hours old as western vaccination certificates may not be accepted. I will therefore be monitoring the requirements closer to the departure date.
Flights will be as follows :
Outbount Feb[masked] Luton - Moscow VKO W98125 Currently under £20
Inbount Feb[masked] Moscow VKO - Luton W98126 Currently under £20
The plan would be to visit as many of the following places listed in the following link as possible https://www.momondo.com/discover/winter-in-moscow-travel-guide including the Red Sqare, Sparrow Hills, St. Basil's Cathedral, Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. I'd also like to include an evening to the theatre/ballet and an evening to the banya.
We will be travelling via public transport (each pays their own).
For hotels please budget about £40 per night x 3 nights for a 3 or 4 star hotel single occupancy although please feel free to share. I will choose a place that provides cancellable accommodation and will let you know the name of the hotel closer to the date so that you can book your own accommodation.
A donation of £10 per person would be appreciated to cover expenses related to the Sunny Walkers' website for those attending.
Once you have understood visa and covid requirements, please send me a message with your telephone number as I will be creating Whatsapp group.
Do not buy flights for now and only buy flights if you think you will have no problem obtaining the visa and fulfilling covid requirements.
I'll restrict numbers to about 6 persons and operate on a first come first served basis. Any questions please ask.
THIS IS BEING POSTPONED TO 2022 DUE TO COVID 19. DETAILS TO BE PROVIDED AROUND CHRISTMAN 2021 BUT PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR INTEREST.
ORIGINAL PLAN FOR 2020
Two days holiday required -- generally rather flat except for a 14km section. Temperature teens or 20s during the day and single figures at night
Experience very long summer's days and lots of hiking on this 4 day intensive hiking trail.
Departing 23 July from London to Stockholm with an overnight in Stockholm to get the Norwegian flight on the 24 July DY[masked] followed by the Bus 91 at 14.15 from Kiruna Airport to Abisko for the start of the hike.
The hike will start at the Turiststation at 16.00 with a 15 km hike to the Abiskojaure cabin (about 450SEK (£40 per person per night)).
The following day walking to we will walk to Alesjaure via Unna Allakas and spend the night in the Alejaure cabin (20+14km). Cost of cabin about £40 per person per night. Alternatively the 14km stretch could be done the following day.
On the Sunday we will return to Abiskojaure via the direct route along part of the famous Kungsleden trail (21km) and spend the night at the cabin there (£40).
We will return to the Tourist Station in Abisko 15km for the 11.10 bus to the airport and catch Norwegian DY[masked] July[masked] and return to London later in the evening.
Flights Norwegian from Stockholm Arlanda to Kiruna (return) currently cost £83 and will become very expensive. There are many options for London - Stockholm.
All cabins have a sauna to chill after the walk.
I got my flights so the trip will be going ahead.
Note that there is a possibility to camp rather than stay in cabins but the weight of the tent and equipment adds weight to the backpack and my idea was to travel very light (hand luggage only) due to the long distance to be covered on the second day.
Everyone will be responsible for his/her own bookings and flights and therefore will be no administration fee.
Please get in touch for further details.
