Crete has just been removed from the quarantine list and a return flight on Thursday 15 October was less than £100 but have increased since the removal of Crete from the list of places that does not require quarantine on the return to the UK. I've booked flights for a week getaway to Crete, Greece as it is one of the few places that is still open to tourism without quarantine either side (at least for now) and would offer good opportunities for some hiking and beach. The weather forecast for the last week of October 2020 is currently looking like it is going to be in the lower 20s. You could return earlier if you do not have sufficient holidays left. You will book your own flights and accommodation (budget say £30/night that could be reduced if you want to share) so there will be no organiser fee. Any local transport costs e.g. car rental will be shared. Covid precautions and rules will be as per local government regulations and will be listed later. Group size will not exceed 4/5 persons.
THIS TRIP IS BEING MOVED FROM 2020 to 2021 DUE TO THE CURRENT COVID SITUATION. Let’s explore Corfu’s mountains, coastal scenery, beaches, ancient villages and monasteries over the Early May Bank Holiday. Flights are currently just £102!! No days off work needed if you can manage to leave work a bit early, else just a half day. With rugged mountains, over 200km of coastline, lots of sunshine, beaches, ouzo and souvlaki as a start, Corfu is known as Greece's emerald island because Corfu is one of the greenest islands in Greece. Corfu is studded with whitewashed houses, Byzantine churches, and the remains of Venetian fortresses and Greek temples. Its cultural heritage reflects years spent under Venetian, French and British rule before it was united with Greece in 1864. Corfu has its own long distance trail, the Corfu Trail (see http://www.corfu-trail.com/index.html), crossing the island from south to north so the plan is to do a section of this trail, combined with another interesting route. If logistics allow, we may be able to tackle Mount Pantokrator, located in north-eastern Corfu. At 906 metres (2,972 ft), it is the highest mountain on the island. At the summit, the whole of Corfu can be seen, as well as Albania which lies a short distance from the island. We will stay in the seaside town of Benitses, in twin/triple or single studios/apartment rooms. The accommodation has a pool and will be walking distance from the beach and breakfast will be included. Provisional itinerary (subject to change): Thursday 29/4: Arrive in Corfu at 22:05, transfer to accommodation Friday 30/4: Hike part of Corfu Trail Saturday 1/5: Hike Mount Pantokrator or another interesting route Sunday 2/5: Free day to enjoy the beach or do some kayaking (or potential 3rd shorter hike) Monday 3/5: Free morning, return flight at 15:50 Flights: Currently priced at £102! Outbound: Thu 29th of April, Easyjet EZY8757 London Gatwick to Corfu, 16:55 - 22:05 Return: Mon 3rd of May, Easyjet EZY8756 Corfu to London Gatwick, 15:50 - 17:05 Cost: Twin/Triple shared room: £160 Single room: £195 This includes: - 3 nights’ accommodation - 3 breakfasts - Most or all transport (airport transfers and transport to/from hikes) - Admin fee (Please note that depending on numbers you may be asked to pay for a single room if there is no one to share with)
THIS TRIP IS BEING MOVED FROM 2020 to 2021 DUE TO THE CURRENT COVID SITUATION. Option to take 1 day off work if needed and fly out on Thursday instead as per the original 2020 plan - please contact me before booking flights. Let’s explore Sardinia’s Supramonte mountains and the spectacular Golfo di Orosei coastline over the late May bank holiday. Flights are currently just £113 with Easyjet from Gatwick. Supramonte: The Supramonte is a dramatic complex of limestone peaks, canyons and caves of unparalleled beauty that back onto the Golfo di Orosei. The most impressive of the canyons is the Gorropu Gorge, which is often billed as “Europe’s Grand Canyon” and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Golfo di Orosei: For sheer stop-dead-in-your-tracks beauty, there are few places to match this gulf, forming the seaward section of the glorious Parco Nazionale del Golfo di Orosei e del Gennargentu. Here the high mountains of the Gennargentu abruptly meet the sea, forming a crescent of dramatic cliffs riven by false inlets, scattered with horseshoe-shaped bays and lapped by exquisitely aquamarine waters. Accommodation: We’ll be staying in Cala Ganone with the option to either camp (with your own tent) or stay in a shared bungalow. The campsite, surrounded by four acres of age-old pine forest, is just 200 meters from the sea and within walking distance of all the services in Cala Gonone such as supermarkets, bars and restaurants, port and bus stop. The bungalows have either twin or triple rooms. Option for a single room (at additional cost, please contact me). Each bungalow has a bathroom with shower and a veranda and kitchenette. Cala Ganone: Cala Gonone and its main town Dorgali, are located at the coast and the slopes of the Supramonte mountain range. This is one of the most charming and unspoilt areas in Sardinia. It’s Cala Gonone’s very inaccessibility that forms a good part of its appeal. Not so long ago you could only reach this insulated Golfo di Orosei resort on Sardinia’s cliff-sided eastern coast from the sea. Provisional itinerary (subject to change): Wednesday 26/5 - Arrive in Olbia at 20:20 on recommended flight, stay in/near Olbia Thursday 27/5 – Explore Isola di Maddalena (tbc). (optional arrival in Olbia on Thursday). Drive/transfer to Cala Ganone in the evening Friday 28/5 – Coastal hike or hike to the Nuragic Village of Tiscali Saturday 29/5 – Day or half day kayaking trip along the coast (optional, cost tbc) Sunday 30/5 – Hike to the Gorropu Canyon Monday 31/6 – Beach day (or optional boat trip), drive/transfer to the airport, flight back to London Gatwick at 20:55 I am also aiming to organise an optional day/half day of Via Ferrata for those interested, day and cost TBC closer to the date depending on availability of guides. Flights: Currently priced at £113 Outbound: Recommended flight: London Gatwick to Olbia Wed 26 May - easyJet EZY8679 – 16:55 – 20:20 OR option to arrive on Thursday if not able to take Thursday off work (please contact me first) Return: Olbia to London Gatwick Mon 31 May – easyJet EZY8680 – 20:55 – 22:20 Trip Costs: Bungalow: £215 Camping: £165 (own tent) This includes: - 4 nights’ shared accommodation (twin/triple) Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun in Cala Ganone (please note accommodation for Wed night will be an additional cost) - All or most transport (covering either airport transfers or ideally rental cars if we have enough drivers) - Admin fee Please note accommodation for the Wednesday night will need to be paid separately/in addition. I will inform everyone of the cost once I know where we will be staying (it will be as affordable as possible). The original trip was planned for Thu - Mon but some of us are now going a day early but I will still aim to accommodate those from the original group that prefer to arrive on Thursday. Anyone new wishing to fly out on Thursday please get in touch with me before booking.
THIS IS BEING POSTPONED TO 2021 DUE TO COVID 19. DETAILS TO BE PROVIDED SOON BUT PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR INTEREST. ORIGINAL PLAN FOR 2020 Two days holiday required -- generally rather flat except for a 14km section. Temperature teens or 20s during the day and single figures at night Experience very long summer's days and lots of hiking on this 4 day intensive hiking trail. Departing 23 July from London to Stockholm with an overnight in Stockholm to get the Norwegian flight on the 24 July DY[masked] followed by the Bus 91 at 14.15 from Kiruna Airport to Abisko for the start of the hike. The hike will start at the Turiststation at 16.00 with a 15 km hike to the Abiskojaure cabin (about 450SEK (£40 per person per night)). The following day walking to we will walk to Alesjaure via Unna Allakas and spend the night in the Alejaure cabin (20+14km). Cost of cabin about £40 per person per night. Alternatively the 14km stretch could be done the following day. On the Sunday we will return to Abiskojaure via the direct route along part of the famous Kungsleden trail (21km) and spend the night at the cabin there (£40). We will return to the Tourist Station in Abisko 15km for the 11.10 bus to the airport and catch Norwegian DY[masked] July[masked] and return to London later in the evening. Flights Norwegian from Stockholm Arlanda to Kiruna (return) currently cost £83 and will become very expensive. There are many options for London - Stockholm. All cabins have a sauna to chill after the walk. I got my flights so the trip will be going ahead. Note that there is a possibility to camp rather than stay in cabins but the weight of the tent and equipment adds weight to the backpack and my idea was to travel very light (hand luggage only) due to the long distance to be covered on the second day. Everyone will be responsible for his/her own bookings and flights and therefore will be no administration fee. Please get in touch for further details.
