Upcoming events (5+)
Surf's Up are the UK's No 1 Beach Boys tribute band and they will be appearing plus support at Hamfields Leisure Centre, Berkeley. Tickets are £12.50 printable from Hamfields website. Doors open at 7.30. Dig out your brightest Hawaiian shirt and let's have fun, fun, fun!
IKP Productions are performing the Sword in the Stone as this year's summer play. Those of us who saw The Three Musketeers last year will remember how enjoyable it was. The event is outdoors, so bring a picnic, a foldable chair and an umbrella, just in case! Having already scheduled an event at our usual location (Museum in the Park), I thought we could try the Rococo Garden for a change on the bank holiday monday. Tickets £13/11 from the Cheltenham Everyman website.
Strap yourselves in folks as the CrazyBird Comedy Club is proud to announce that TV star and general comedy legend Reginald D Hunter will perform a headline set when they bring their successful show to Stroud Subscription Rooms on Thursday 5th September. Reginald’s searingly honest material has garnered him a popular fan base that spans the generations. His appearances on television have included Have I Got News For You, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown and the hugely popular BBC2 series Reginald D Hunter’s Songs Of The South. Hunter has become famous for his social commentary, satire and observational comedy. His talent for enthralling his listeners with slice-of-life experiences and exploring the fantastically ridiculous aspects of the world around us makes for excellent juxtaposition, offering a fresh and funny viewpoint on issues of politics and identity. Supporting Reginald will be critically acclaimed Australian musical comedian Grant Buse. Grant’s unique brand of musical comedy is enjoyed by a wide variety of audiences. His cheeky antics, clever song writing and razor sharp wit have established him as a "remarkable talent and one to watch" (Australian Stage). Grant tours his musical comedy shows nationally and abroad to critical acclaim and sell out shows. Recently crowned ‘New Act of the Year’ at the 2019 Bath Comedy Festival, David Eagle is also on the line up. Expect David to treat you with uproarious gags that take in Australian brashness, Brexit (of course!) and sex toys coupled with pure improvisation that will leave you gasping in admiration. Compere for the evening will be the CrazyBird Comedy Club resident MC, Geoff Whiting. ‘One of Britain’s funniest men’. The Radio Times. Geoff, who is no stranger to Stroud, is an accomplished and vastly experienced comedian in his own right. He has made regular appearances on TV and radio, as well as being an excellent TV warm up having cut his teeth on a series of BBC’s Shooting Stars. Price: £15 Tickets available from; Sub Rooms Box Office –[masked] or www.thesubrooms.co.uk (will incur £1.50 booking fee) crazybirdcomedy@gmail /[masked]
Over the weekend of Sept 13 - 15th, there will be performances by small theatre groups and individuals at various venues around Stroud. Details are being added on to the Festival website and I will give updates over the coming weeks. This is an established annual event and those who came last time will remember what a great time we had. Info will be available from Stroud Tourist Info Centre at The Subscription Rooms but brochures are not out yet. Most performances are on more than once throughout the weekend. I'll work out which ones I'm going to when the brochure is out but last year, tickets were £6 with a 6 for £30 offer.
