Meeting Time- Sunday September 21st
10am on NW corner of 81st & Broadway
We will then make our way over to the march (stopping in at Patagonia where there will be bagels and coffee and nice people)
Please leave yourself some extra time to commute as the subways may be busy. Many of the organizations are meeting a lot earlier so we will hopefully miss 'rush hour'.
My number is[masked] in case you are running late or need to get in touch with me on the day.
The march starts at 11:30am. We need to be in place before then, hence the earlier meeting time.
At 12:58 we will have the moment of silence and 1pm is going to be the climax of the march.
The march route is down Central Park West to Columbus Circle, then over to 6th Avenue until 42nd street where we start to make our way over to 11th Ave. The march ends at 34th and 11th. There will be a big street party at the end of the march.
Signs & Banners
We have some signs that we can all take turns with however you are more than welcome to bring your own. We are not allowed any wood or metal so signs must be held up with cardboard tubes or something you can invent without metal and wood.
There is no dress code. If you have a Surfrider t-shirt it would be awesome if you could wear that. Also feel free to dress up, paint your face, express yourself in any way that is not offensive. Just dress comfortably as you will be walking a lot.
There will be a lot of media at the march. Please do not talk to any press without speaking with me first and asking them for an ID card. We have been warned that there will be a group there who are 'anti-environment' and are known for interviewing activists and editing them to make them look ignorant. Please keep this in mind and be careful. Feel free to try and jump in front of cameras and be seen though!
Bring your own water.
Don't bring any alcohol or drugs.
Leave your weapons at home please.
Be nice to people and please don't get arrested.
Bring anything that can make a noise- drum, whistle, harmonica, tambourine- whatever your heart desires.
Bring all your friends - they don't have to be a member to march with us.
There will be port-a-potties dotted at points along the march.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
See you Sunday! Let's change the world!! Yeeewwww!!!
If you would like to march or get more info please contact Nikita ([masked]) so she can keep you posted on the day’s event.
On September 21st, world leaders are coming to New York City for a landmark UN summit on the climate crisis. We don’t trust them to take action on their own - we need to prove to them that the world’s people demand action right now.
With our future on the line and the whole world watching, we need to take a stand to bend the course of history by taking to the streets to demand the world we know is within our reach. A world with an economy that works for people and the planet; a world safe from the ravages of climate change; a world with good jobs, clean air and water, and healthy communities.
The success of the summit depends a lot more on us than it does on our politicians. If we seize this moment and show real political power, it will open up the space for meaningful action.
Join us on the 21st. More details to come about the meeting location but please RSVP now so we know how many people will be joining us.
AND please spread the word!!!
