Sutton Writers is a supportive writing community. Whether you are a budding Shakespeare or Stephen King or want to follow in the footsteps of Agatha Christie or Julia Donaldson – whatever your aspirations, you will be warmly welcomed.

Our strong membership comprises both published and unpublished writers of diverse talents offering support and friendship with local monthly meetings, workshops and the chance to enter club competitions.

Writers Critique Group

Sutton Writers hosts a number of Writers Critique Groups. The Monday evening group hold their meetings fortnightly at the Thomas Hall Community Lounge. This Writers Critique Group will accept readings of writer's short stories, chapters from novels/novellas in the making and poetry. Feedback is provided to each other by those that participate. ********** NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME All attendees: The hall hire cost is very reasonable and is split between those who attend on the night. Historically this has cost each attendee, Members and Visitors alike, roughly £3 each per evening. Members: The full annual membership fee includes admission to Writers Critique Groups. Members only have to pay the hall hire charge. Visitors and Country / Online Members: You may attend your first Writers Critique Group free of charge (plus the hall hire charge). Future attendance is £5 per visit (plus the hall hire charge).

Sutton Writers is pleased to welcome Alison Weir, the eminent historian and historical novelist and the President of Sutton Writers as our March speaker. Alison is the biggest-selling female historian (and the fifth best-selling historian) in the United Kingdom since records began in 1997. She has published twenty-three titles and sold more than 2.7 million books - over a million in the UK and more than 1.7 million in the USA. She is now working on two concurrent series of books: Six Tudor Queens, comprising six novels on the wives of Henry VIII (with associated e-books), and England's Medieval Queens, a quartet of historical works of non-fiction. A further series of books will be announced next year. ********** NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME Members: The full annual membership fee includes admission to our monthly meeting. It also covers in-house competitions, attendance at workshops and other writing events. This represents very good value particularly for those who participate in the free workshops where they can benefit from the knowledge and expertise of other writers. Visitors and Country / Online Members: You can attend your first monthly meeting free of charge. Future attendance is £5 per visit. The Country / Online membership also entitles you to attend two meetings per year and to enter all competitions.
