Improving performance with .NET Core 3.0 and the new(ish) Span<T> and friends

Details

There's been a lot of work in .NET Core 3.0 related to performance improvements, with Span and similar types underpinning those improvements.

This month we'll be putting these improvements to the test and trying to see just how much they can help. Fun!

We'll start the night by covering the improvements in .NET Core 3.0 and the new types added to .NET Core 2.2 (and extended on in Core 3.0).

Then we'll take it to the streets and see how much we can improve the performance of an existing open source project.

We'd love you to bring your laptop so you can try things for yourself, but if you can't, don't worry. We'll run a room-programming session so we can all work through the improvements together!

If you bring your laptop, we recommend pre-installing .NET Core 3.0 (preview 6+), and PerfView (https://github.com/Microsoft/perfview). Richard will be be using VSCode, but nothing stops you from using VS2019 (just grab the latest preview build) if you wish.

The evening will be facilitated by Richard Banks, but to make the night as collaborative, engaging, and fun as possible, we need you! RSVP so we know you're coming.
