Details

Hi Data Engineers of Sydney,

We're bringing you the Sydney Data Engineering meetup once again at swipejobs, a fully funded smartphone technology company that connects job seekers to jobs on-demand. The offices have an amazing view overlooking garden point and we have a very exciting lineup for the night!

------
Our first speaker is Andy Barker, CTO of swipejobs and his talk will be on:
Data Engineering in a high volatility CI/CD environment

swipejobs is a technology company aimed at the US labour market, specialising in putting people to work. Currently, we have 225,000 registered users, 40,000 of whom use the platform every day. We give over 10,000 people a job everyday.

The aim of the business is to deliver transformation to the staffing market using a data driven approach with the company being focused on insights gathered through the data team.

The swipejobs solution is event based, dealing with around 1.4 million changes per day which brings its own unique challenges, especially in the data and analytics space.

This talk will focus on the journey so far, some learnings we’ve had and the outstanding challenges. We will talk through some of the approaches we have adopted, especially around data storage, processing, reporting and how to do CI/CD in a big data environment.

Our Second Speaker for the night will be talking about what it takes to be a succesful data engineer:
Narbeh Yousefian | Co-founder, CEO - Snowflake Analytics
The things you own end up owning you
From big data to data pipelines, to designing analytics systems for continuous data processing. This talk discusses the role and skills needed to be a successful data engineer.

----------
As always, places are limited so do get in fast - also remember to bring some great questions along - we're on the look out for more speakers so do let me know if you have a great presentation up your sleeve!

Thanks,

Peter
