Socrates Cafe is a philosophy discussion group that is open to absolutely everyone. It's held in a casual cafe environment and we encourage everyone to join in - but there's no obligation to do so. We're bringing philosophy back to the people!

This meeting will be a moderated discussion (with no formal talk at the start).
We'll choose the topic together on the night and you're invited to participate (or to sit back and enjoy the conversation, if that's your preference). No homework or prior reading is necessary - just come prepared to be open-minded.Topic selection - you are requested to limit topic suggestions to 12 words or fewer. We'll start selecting the topic on the night around 6:45pm, so please come on time if you want a say in what we're going to discuss.
Dining:
After the discussion, you're invited to join us for dinner at around 8:30pm. If you need to eat earlier, please consider doing so before the event (or downstairs) so as to minimise any disruptions to our event and other attendees. Here is the link to their food menu.When ordering food or drinks, please advise staff that you are part of Socrates Cafe upstairs (even if you consume your order downstairs). This will help the venue get an idea of how much business we are bringing them which may help us with
(a) keeping the venue on an ongoing basis and (b) with keeping venue costs down.Access:
- Erskineville train station is less than 100m away.
- Erskineville Rd bus stops 35T3, 47T2 and 355 are within 200m.
- Street parking should be readily available within reasonable distance.
If you could do with a lift home, please either post a request on the website or let me know on the night and I'll make an announcement - our members come from all over Sydney, so someone may well be able to assist.
